Field Study Project Report Format These are some indicative guidelines to help you in preparing your report. Total length should be MAXIMUM 60 pages (page numbers indicated below are indicative). The report is normally written in English. Title page and abstract needs to be in both languages according to below. If the company requires the report to be written in Greek, a summary report of 20 pages in English must also be submitted. Title Page and Abstract in Greek and English. It is compulsory to use the bilingual standard form provided on the last two pages of this file hereafter for the first two pages of the report. It is also compulsory to send this form by e-mail to the FSP administrator the same day as the report is handed in. Executive summary (3 pages) Objective of the mission, method / line of action, principal results, recommendations / future actions Acknowledgements Table of Contents Introduction (6 pages) Definition and description of the mission Context of the mission. How did the problem appear? Scope and limitations of the mission Presentation of the company/organization Description of the main activities and processes of the company/organization, putting the department/function/activity that sponsored the FSP at the center. What is its role and how is it integrated in the entire organization? Situation Analysis (8 pages) Detailed context of the project integrating directly related literature, Internet sources etc. Best Practices of similar situations / problems Analysis of external factors / drivers, Analysis of internal factors / drivers, Analysis of technology factors, Market considerations, Competitive considerations (SWOT, Porter ) Project Methodology and Steps of Execution (6-8 pages) Alternative ways of tackling the problem that you considered and conclusion on what way you selected to follow and why you selected that particular way. Description of the methodology employed. Motivation of why a particular methodology was used. The steps of execution with their objectives, realisations and gaps between expectations and outcomes from a methodological perspective. Critical analysis of the method used what could have been done differently? 1
Key Findings (10 pages) Results obtained, stepwise if appropriate. Think of a clear and synthetic presentation! Analysis of the results obtained in an appropriate conceptual framework derived from the situation analysis. Emphasise findings on a) strategy, b) organisational structure, c) business processes, d) human resources, technology Gaps concerning the result (i.e., divergences from your initial plans, if any) that appeared during the project? Explain. Recommendations (10 pages) What do you advise to the company/organization? Be specific on your recommendations by supporting them with data (qualitative and/or quantitative). Emphasise the possible impact of your recommendations on the company s a) strategy, b) structure, c) processes, d) human resources, e) value added, f) competitiveness, g) flexibility, etc Point out the innovative aspects included in your recommendation Timetable and action plan for your recommendations Implementation issues what should the company keep in mind for successful implementation? What will happen after the project? What should the company pay particular attention to? Demo description if appropriate (8-10 pages) A brief description and illustration of any software / simulation tool used and/or developed. Conclusion (5 pages) Brief overview of results and recommendations. Link to the critical analysis of your methodology. Main learnings and other "strong" aspects that the project provided. What you have learnt and what you would like to develop more in your professional future. Perspective making with respect to the situation analysis (conceptual framework, best practices, models ). Bibliography Include references to books, articles, reports in the following format: Porter, M. E. (1985), Competitive Advantage, New York: The Free Press. Prahalad, C. K. & Hamel, G. (1990), "The Core Competence of the Corporation", Harvard Business Review, vol. 68, no. 3, pp. 79-91. (or indicate the dates / months, i.e., in this example..harvard Business Review, May-June, pp. 79-91). Andersen Consulting, (1994), Worldwide Manufacturing Competitiveness Study, The Second Lean Enterprise Report, Andersen Consulting UK. Indicate interviews if appropriate (person interviewed, his/her position, and date of the interview) Appendices Be ware to join only material that you refer to in the report! Include information about the contribution of each one of the team members, who was particularly responsible for what? This could be done by task/major step in the project. If all were working on specific tasks you indicate all names for that task. Also indicate for each team member the main competencies developed (2 lines for your CV!) Indicate web sources with the appropriate URL. Text Format in the Report Times New Roman 12 or similar, 1,5 linespace, Margins 2,5 all around. 2
Submission Deadline Thursday October 31 2013: You need to submit: One printed copy and one CD rom copy for your supervisor, One CD rom copy for the secretariat. You also need to submit one printed copy and one CD copy to the company. Normally the students submit the company copies directly to the company, exceptionally through the supervisor. Please note that the FSPs have to carry a standardized front page as by the attached. It must be integrated both in the printed and in the CD rom versions. Oral Presentation The presentations can be done in Greek or English. The presentations will be held November 4 8 2013. There is an imperative that the presentations last for 30 minutes only, leaving 15 minutes for discussion. No more than 30 minutes presentation time will be given in any condition, thus think of adapting your number of slides! Before the presentation, all students need to submit, in hard copy or by e-mail, to the FSP Administrator the FSP-Self Appraisal and Student Evaluation Report (distributed separately). Best FSP Awards Among those project graded "outstanding" a limited number are nominated for the best FSP awards, 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd prize. The students of the nominated projects prepare a 15-minute summary presentation in English, which will be presented in front of a Jury consisting of high-level executives and program faculty, approximately two weeks after the end of the oral presentations.
