FRESHMAN UNCONDITIONAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS AT TEXAS SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY Students applying to who have completed all high school requirements for graduation and have not attended a college/university since graduating high school; High School Rank in Class GPA and Test Score College Ready Requirements Top 25% of the Graduating Class* or GPA 2.5 or higher and SAT Scores of 820 or higher or ACT score of 17 and higher or Met Texas Success Initiative (TSI) by Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Requirements * Must submit SAT or ACT score TSI EXEMPT BASED OFF COLLEGE READINESS 1. ACT composite* score of 23 or higher 2. SAT combined* score of 1070 or higher 3. Eleventh grade exit-level TAKS scores of 2200 or higher on math and/or 2200 or higher in English Language Arts with a writing composition rating of at least 3; TAKS scores can be no more than three years old [The English Language Arts and written composition sections must be met together; if neither or only one area is met, student must take both the reading and writing sections of a TSI test.] 4. Students who have an associate or bachelor s degree earned from a regionally accredited college or university 5. Military Service: (a) Students who are serving in the state of Texas as active duty members of the Armed Forces of the United States (b) Students who are on active duty in the Texas National Guard (c) Students who are members of a reserve component of the armed forces for at least 3 years preceding enrollment (d) Students who on or after August 1, 1990, were honorably discharged, retired, or released from active duty as a member of the U.S. armed forces, Texas National Guard, or member of reserve. A copy of the DD214 form showing this status is required. 6. Students who are transferring to TSU from a private or out-of-state, regionally accredited, college or university may meet sections of the Texas Success Initiative based on a grade of C or better in courses that are equivalent to courses at Texas Southern University. *Act and SAT scores can be no more than five years old. CONDITIONAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR SUMMER COURSES Conditional Admission is a provisional admission program at that gives students an unique opportunity to gain full admission by taking summer courses and achieving academic competency in core curriculum courses. Students may not apply for Summer Conditional Admission program. Students are selected for participation in this program by the Office of Admissions. Please direct questions about the admissions process to the Office of Admissions. REGISTER FOR THE PROGRAM Students accepted to the Conditional Admission program need to attend one summer session. Students may register by completing the ONLINE REGISTRATION FORM and submitting a credit or debit card payment. Visit www.tsu.edu/admission or, FILL IN THE AGREEMENT FORM and submit a $350.00 cashier s check or money order and mail to: Office of Admission 3100 Cleburne Street Houston, Texas 77004 REGISTRATION FEE The Conditional Admission program registration fee must be paid with the registration form. The registration fee is non-refundable. TAKE THE TSI ASSESSMENT EXAM The TSI Assessment is a program designed to help institutions determine if students are ready for collegelevel course work in the general areas of reading, writing and mathematics. This program also will help determine what type of course or intervention will best meet students need to help become better prepared for college-level course work. Registration for TSI Assessment Exam Test Fee Register in person at the University Testing Center or by telephone at (713) 313-6838. TSI Assessment exam required to complete a pre-assessment activity prior testing. The total cost for the test is $30.00. www.tsu.edu/testing Testing Location University Testing Center, Education Building, basement level, room 007. Acceptable Photo Identification Test Result Two forms of identification will be required with one showing a picture, such as a valid driver s license, state ID, or passport. Test scores will be available by computer printout once you have completed the test. GET YOUR SCORE If TSI Assessment exam scores are below the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirements, students participate in a Conditional Admission program in Summer, and attend English and Mathematics courses based on the score for a successful mastery of skills to improve the chances for entry into college level courses.
