I am associate professor of economics at the University of Vermont. I have worked at UVM since 2002. Prior to that I worked at the University of Calgary and Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. I obtained my Ph.D. in economics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1997. Since coming to UVM, I have taught Principles of Macroeconomics and Microeconomics many times. I also have taught courses on international trade, international finance, globalization, and industrial organization. My research interests include the economics of transportation industries, and the economic history of Latin America. Phone: 802-656-0184 Fax: 802-656-8405 Email: richard.sicotte@uvm.edu Grading and Exam Proctors Attached Files: o proctorguide_agreement.doc (155 KB) GRADING AND EXAM PROCTORS 1. Grading Myeconlab homework assignments will account for 25% of the final grade. There are five such assignments throughout the course, each is worth five percent of the grade. Myeconlab homeworks are completed on the myeconlab website. The homeworks will be available each Monday and are due each Sunday at 11:59PM. The first homework is due May 29, and the last is due June 30. Students are required to post commentary on readings, as well as respond to other students' comments. These commentaries will be posted on the "Discussion Board," a link to it is on the course menu. Instructions for postings are also available at that link. The assignments themselves, along with the relevant readings, are in the "Learning Modules" link. There are three such assignments, and each is worth five percent of the total grade.

There are three exams. The first exam is June 6, and the second is June 20. These exams are not cumulative. The first exam covers material in chapters 1-6, and the second exam covers material in chapters 7-11. These exams will be taken online, and each is worth 15% of the total grade. The final exam is July 1, and will be taken online. It is cumulative, and is worth 30% of the total grade. No late homeworks will be permitted except in the event of student illness, verified by a physician's note sent to me at my university address. Similarly, make-up exams are not possible except for the same reason. 2. Exam Proctor Policy There are two options for taking exams. First, you may obtain an approved proctor and take the exam at an off-campus location at any time during the days of the exam. Second, you may take that exam at a common time on campus: 10AM - 11:15AM June 6 or June 20, or 10AM -12 NOON July 1. The in-classroom exams will take place at the university in a room to be announced. If you choose the first option, your proctor must be identified and approved no later than 72 hours prior to each exam. The following guidelines should be followed when selecting a proctor. All questions regarding proctors should be directed to Professor Sicotte. You, the student, are responsible for making arrangements for a proctor by contacting an official from one of the categories listed below. Those typically approved as proctors include: 1. An administrator or faculty member of any accredited institution of higher education. 2. A high school or elementary school teacher, counselor, librarian, or administrator. A student who has employment as a teacher may not have another teacher proctor the examination. A school principal or superintendent may proctor the teacher's examination. 3. A local or regional librarian. 4. A Human Resources manager, a training manager, supervisor, or manager of higher rank at a company from which candidates will be tested. 5. Military personnel: an educational services officer, a base librarian, or an officer of higher rank than the student. No relative or immediate work supervisor may proctor an examination. Once you have identified a proctor please have that individual complete the Proctor Agreement form. (It is attached.) YOU MUST EMAIL ME A SCANNED FILLED OUT FORM AT LEAST 72 HOURS PRIOR TO THE EXAM.

Note: Proctor information is subject to verification. In accordance with the University of Vermont's Code of Academic Integrity, providing false proctor information may lead to disciplinary action. You will complete the exam online, therefore you will need to bring your laptop to the proctor/exam location or the proctor must provide you with one. You will also need access to the internet. YOU MUST LET ME KNOW WHETHER YOU WILL TAKE THE EXAM ONLINE OR IN THE CLASSROOM ON CAMPUS AT LEAST 72 HOURS PRIOR TO EACH EXAM.
