Travel with Gina VOLUNTEER TEACH ENGLISH in THAILAND January 2018 GROUP 1: 15-days JAN 6 (Sat) - 20 (Sat), 2018 Cost: $495pp GROUP 2: 29-days JAN 20 (SAT) - FEB 17 (Sat) Cost: $495pp PROGRAM DETAILS: Two volunteers will be placed together at each school to share this cultural experience. Gina and/or the prior volunteers will orient the new volunteers each session. Volunteers will assist the Thai English teacher in the classroom four hours a day Monday through Friday (based on the scheduling of the English classes at each school). School children are K-12. During your free time volunteers can explore the local village, practice the Thai language with the locals, read a book or simply relax. For group 1, volunteers do not need to be certified English teachers or have prior teaching experience, they only need to to be native English speakers. Group 2 volunteers do need to have prior professional teaching experience (retire & current professional teachers) and preferably have teaching English experience. The local Thai English teacher will be responsible for presenting the English lesson in class, along with instruction. During the break-out sessions when students are put into small groups to practice the lesson, volunteers will help motivate the students to learn English and assist in their pronunciation of the English words. Many of the students come from the rural Hill Tribes where they speak their Hill Tribe language at home (Lisu, Lahu, etc). They come to school to learn Thai and English. When students learn to speak English well they can obtain better job opportunities in tourism & business. As the farming opportunities in the Hill Tribe villages diminish, this helps the young Hill Tribe youth find alternative employment. In addition, promoting

the Hill Tribe culture via tourism offers the youth many ways to sustain their Hill Tribe culture & tourism income. English is the world s business and tourism language. Generally schools have wifi. Volunteers will be required to have a local cell phone so, if needed, they can easily contact Gina, Del (our Lisu Hill Tribe /Thai tour guide sponsor), their host, and the Thai English teacher for support during the volunteer period. Either bring an old unlocked cell phone & purchase a local sim card for $5 (plus money for minutes). Or purchase a local Thai cell phone for approximately $35. PROGRAM COST, ACCOMMODATIONS & MEALS: Group 1: Jan 6-Feb 20, 2018 (15 days) Program Fee: $495pp (based on shared double room). Plus TravelGuard trip insurance cost. Fee includes orientation, transport to/from your host school, and accommodations for 14-nights. Accommodation is a lovely Thai-syle guesthouse which has AC, wifi, and private western bathroom with hot water. Single room supplement is $165pp. Meals: Breakfast included with guesthouse. Lunch will be provided at school. Dinner is on your own. Group 2: Jan 20-Feb 17, 2018 (29 days) Program Fee: $495 (includes orientation, transport to/from your host school and accommodation for 27-nights). Housing is teacher housing on the school campus which consists of 2 single rooms with shared kitchen and bath. Bathroom may be Thai-style squat toilet but a western converter chair is provided. School has wifi. Meals: Breakfast & lunch will be provided at school. Dinner is on your own. Plus TravelGuard trip insurance cost. Please note Group 2 volunteers need to have prior teaching experience and preferably teaching English experience. Costs not included: International air to/from Thailand, internal flight Bangkok to/from Chiang Mai, and TravelGuard trip insurance. Extra dining out & sightseeing expenses.

PROGRAM SCHEDULE: DAY 1: Arrival to Chiang Mai. Orientation with Gina Henry in Chiang Mai. One night hotel in Chiang Mai (hotel night included). Optional tour: Doi Sutep Mountain Monastery and Mae Sai Elephant Camp where the elephants have learned to paint with their trunks ($35pp) (option to ride an elephant $20pp). DAY 2: Gina will accompany you to the Thai village north of Chiang Mai where you will be volunteering and introduce you to your hotel (or teacher housing) and the local Thai English teacher you will be assisting. DAYS M-F: Volunteer at the local school, assisting the local Thai English teacher in the classroom four-hours per day Monday through Friday (based on the scheduling of the English classes at each school). The Thai English teacher will be responsible for the lesson plans. Volunteers are here to help motivate the students to want to learn English. However, if you see the opportunity to offer more assistance beyond the scheduled English class time, please feel free to do so. This is our pilot program and we need your input on how to make this the most effective. WEEKEND SAT-SUN: Local sightseeing your Thai English teacher. DAYS M-F: Volunteer at the local school. SAT: Return to Chiang Mai & fly home (or add a trip extension).

Consider joining Gina on her 10-day NEW YEAR S EVE THAILAND TOUR Dec 29, 2017 to Jan 7, 2018 (Land cost $1595, International Air cost starting at $900). ACCOMODATIONS & MEALS: Volunteers will be hosted by either a local family, offered teacher housing, or stay in a local guesthouse. Breakfast will be provided by the place of accommodation. Lunch will be provided at school. Dinner is on your own. Single room and double room accommodations are available. Most volunteers prefer staying at a local guesthouse which have western bathrooms & wifi internet. If your option is a family homestay this will offer you a cultural experience, but keep in mind it most likely means the bathroom will be the local typical squat toilet-style which can be very clean and hygienic. Most family homestays do not include wifi internet. Teacher housing may be squat toilet or western toilet style. Generally there is wifi at the school. At school you will have wifi internet in most cases. Volunteers will be required to have a local cell phone so, if needed, they can easily contact Gina, Del (our Lisu Hill Tribe /Thai tour guide sponsor), their host family and the Thai English teacher for support during the volunteer period. Either bring an old unlocked cell phone & purchase a local sim card for $5 (plus money for minutes). Or purchase a local Thai cell phone for approximately $35.

PROGRAM COST: $295 (includes program fee, orientation, transport to/from your host village, and 2 nights hotel in Chiang Mai). TravelGuard trip insurance. Your cost for accommodation (16 nights). Price is based on your volunteer school. Here are your choices: 1. Six volunteers (Pasak School, Hangteng School, PaNeug School. All are together and are located 1.5 hours north of Chiang Mai between Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai). Accommodations are at the Full House Guesthouse 550 baht/night = $20/night @ 16 nights = $320 based on double room or $160pp based on single room. Schedule: 2. Chiang Mai K-12 Boarding School (located in the north part of Chiang Mai). Two volunteers needed for Jan 15-Feb 10 (one month). Teacher housing included. Free. 3. More schools are being scheduled.
