Students pursuing the A.A. may select courses that satisfy both the degree requirements and lower division requirements for a bachelor s degree at four-year institutions. The 33 hours of electives within the A.A. allows students to complete additional general education and lower division courses required for specific majors. The A.A. degree requires completion of 63 credit hours, the maximum number of hours from a community college that will be applied toward a bachelor s degree at most four-year schools. Meeting with a JCCC counselor is strongly recommended for selection of appropriate courses. UMKC College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) Requirements (all students): General Differences between B.A., B.L.A. and B.S. Degrees: The CAS degree requirements for the B.A. and B.L.A. degrees are the same with one exception: The B.L.A. degree requires 18 hours each in 3 divisions and a minor, not a major. The CAS degree requirements for the B.A., B.L.A., and B.S. are the same with two exceptions: The B.S. degree requires a minimum of 6 hours in math and science The B.S. degree does not require any foreign language. In all instances, students should contact the appropriate department concerning its requirements for a B.S. degree.
