Technologies: the driving force of Philani Zulu, Senior Branch Librarian Sunnyside Library our existence at Sunnyside Library

On being the African University in the service of humanity: Inaugaration and Investiture Speech by Prof. Mandlakayise S. Makhanya, Principal and Vice Chancellor, University of South Africa, 16 th February 2011...However, in getting to grips with the veritable wave of ICTS, we need to ask ourselves: how many individuals on the African continent can log on to the internet, access the website of an electronic journal publisher and use a credit card to download articles from research journals? To what extent has the African continent, in the applications and use of modern ICT s succeeded in benefitting from this new economic landscape? Are new technologies used to their full economic capacities or is their use limited to mere communication technologies between groups and individuals?..

ODL Policy Open Distance Learning (ODL) is a multidimensional concept aimed at bridging the time, geographical, economic, social, educational and communication distance between student and institution, student and academics, student and courseware and student and peers. Open distance learning focuses on removing barriers to access learning, flexibility of learning provision, student centeredness, supporting students and constructing learning programmes with the expectations that students can succeed.

Regional Model Library services: students are provided with access to library resources that facilitate their studying and production of knowledge. Library items can be issued from and returned to regional libraries. Students can also carry out searches; download online resources and other activities available to students.

Where do we come from? Born in January 2008 - building 15 library space Muckleneuck campus library Building 15 - a stop gap measure. Relocated to building 14 in April 2010

What creates uncertainty in our environment? Recommendation 8 : - Dr Roger Mills review report on Regional model:-..prescribed books should no longer be used in new and revised modules, except, perhaps at honors degree and masters levels. The modules sent to students should comprise all the materials necessary for effective learning. The issue of prescribed books is receiving the attention of the STLC already.
