3 INTRODUCTION The SUFLE (Service Universitaire de Français Langue Étrangère) d Aix-Marseille University (AMU), welcomes non-french speaking foreigners and offers French language and culture courses at all levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for languages (CERF). Diversified, innovative and adapted courses These courses are open to any non-french speaking foreign adult having obtained an equivalent of the French Baccalaureate (High School Diploma) or any higher Diploma. They allow students to obtain a Aix-Marseille University Diploma (D.U. of French Language and Culture ). For groups or for individuals, SUFLE also proposes intensive summer and evening courses. SUFLE is also accredited exam center for the Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française (DALF) level C1, for the Test de Connaissance de Français (TCF) and for the TCF Demande d Admission Préalable (DAP). Our ambition is to meet the requirements of different departments at AMU in order to help to better integrate foreign students into the different academic fields. A cultural and university stimulating framework With 77 000 students, 10 000 coming from abroad, Aix-Marseille University is the biggest French-speaking university. It offers a rich and varied environment for research, which attracts scientists from all over the world. AMU is placed among eight French sites of excellence recognized by an international jury, with strong ties with other EPST (établissements publics à caractère scientifique et technologique) such as CNRS, Inserm, IRD, EHESS, CEA, IFSTTAR, INRA, etc. It offers, at a time when employability is a core mission of the university, all academic fields available for study with an innovative teacher evaluation program. Aix-Marseille is the second urban area in France. It offers a dynamic and attractive cultural environment on the Mediterranean coast, in the Provence Alpes Côté d Azur. Aix-Marseille is a cosmopolitan metropolis, in a catchment area (airport, high speed train station), with a very pleasant weather and surrounded by beautiful landscapes such as the parc naturel at Calanques and the provençal hinterland.

4 COURSES Annual and semestrial courses 2018-2019 These courses are addressed to non-french speaking adults having obtained an equivalent of the French Baccalauréat (High School Diploma or any exam allowing University entrance) or any university Diploma. UNIVERSITY DIPLOMA IN FRENCH LANGUAGE AND CULTURE (DIPLÔME UNIVERSITAIRE DE LANGUE ET CULTURE FRANÇAISES) This diploma from Aix-Marseille University provides 30 ECTS credits (European Credits) per semester for 18 hours of class per week. 6 Fees for additional workshops 2h workshop 3h workshop 150 225 Evening classes During the academic year, SUFLE offers French-language support courses at the Aixen-Provence campus, for two hours a week during 10 weeks and from 6 pm to 8 pm (usually on Wednesdays from October to December and from February to April). Evening classes fees Individual student AMU student 250 200 Activities and outings The student card of Aix-Marseille University gives access to university libraries and cafeterias, to sport activities (+ 15 ). It also grants reduced prices in cinemas, theatres, museums, etc.

7 Summer courses 2018 During summer (June to beginning September) SUFLE offers intensive French language and culture courses according to the cultural specificities of the south of France. These courses are open to any non-french speaking foreign adult, having obtained an equivalent of the French Baccalauréat (High School Diploma, or any exam allowing University entrance) or any university Diploma. French language lessons are all taught by qualified teachers of French as a foreign language. For better learning conditions, 4-week sessions are highly recommended. The groups will be opened starting from 10 registered students.

8 Organization of the summer courses Language courses and workshops : 20 hours per week After the placement tests (written and oral), students are placed into groups (maximum 20 students) according to their level (from elementary to advanced levels: A1 to C1). Language classes usually take place every morning from Monday to Friday morning. One cultural outing is proposed at least once a week (Aix-en-Provence or its surroundings). Students will receive a transcript of records at the end of the course. Evaluation in the four language skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking). Some examples of proposed workshops: autour de la chanson française (French songs) langue et cuisine françaises françaises (French language and cooking) connaissance et pratique de la presse (French press) atelier d écriture in situ (writing in situ workshop) vie quotidienne en France (Everyday life in France) prononciation/phonétique (Phonetics and pronunciation) découverte de La Provence (Discovering La Provence) etc.

9 ENROLLMENT PROCEDURES Pre-registration To register, you have to : complete the enrollment form and join the requested documents (already requested at the back of the registration form : copy of passport, copy of high school or university diploma) (semestrial and annual courses, evening courses, intensive summer courses) pay a 300 non-refundable deposit (semestrial and annual courses). Upon receipt of these documents, we will send you a pre-registration certificate (semestrial and annual courses, necessary for visa application at French Embassy or consulate in your country).

10 Final registration Semestrial and annual courses Upon your arrival, you will pay the balance of tuition fees and student social security (about 220 for people between 20 and 28 years during the academic year, free for people under 20 years during the academic year). Otherwise, you can provide a European or international insurance certificate covering medical expenses and hospitalization during your stay in France. You will also need to bring a photo, a copy of your visa or residence card and the certificate of civil liability insurance. When your file is complete, you will obtain your student card. Evening courses Upon your arrival, once we can guarantee the opening of the group of your level, you will pay the tuition fees. Intensive summer courses Upon your arrival, you will pay the tuition fees. You will also need to bring a photo. Remarks : Pre-registration fees is not refundable Registration fees must be payed before the beginning of the courses Payments at the SUFLE Office can be made by French check to the order of Régisseur de Recettes SUFLE or by credit card (cash is not accepted) Payments from outside France must be made by wire transfer (you will find the bank account details on the SUFLE website) Do not forget to indicate the name of the student or of the concerned organization on the bank transfert. 11 TRAINING OF TRAINERS SUFLE offers the possibility to train teachers of French as a foreign language willing to improve their teaching practices. These courses are offered by experienced teachers at SUFLE and by professors from the AMU department of Teaching of French as a foreign language. They can be organized on demand at AMU (Aix-en-Provence or Marseilles) or abroad (under requirement). Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions you may have regarding our courses. CERTIFICATES SUFLE is an exam center approved by the CIEP (International Center for Pedagogical Studies). It organizes several sessions each year for the DALF C1 and the TCF, as well as the annual TCF session for the DAP. Anyone of foreign nationality wishing to enhance their French skills for personal or professional purposes may apply for these certifications. The TCF is a test that allows you to have your level evaluated and validated in French. The certification is valid for 2 years and is recognized by the Ministry of National Education (France), the European Community and international organizations. The TCF for the DAP is a specific test for entry into engineering school or first year university degree in France. The DALF is an official certificate of French higher level, valid for no time limit. It is internationally recognized and is sometimes required to enter the university at the master s or PhD level.
