ASSOCIATION INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL Come and experience A HOME AWAY FROM HOME A modern, affordable boarding school for international students The perfect choice for your child s IGCSE and IBDP success

For International Parents Why AIS boarding is the best choice for your child? With so many boarding schools available to select from, it can be difficult to know which choice is the best. Here are a few questions and answers to help you. Would your child benefit from extra nurture and support? Going to boarding school is a big step for students, but for international students that step is far bigger. During our 50 years of teaching international students, we have gained a deep understanding of the personal care and support international students need. Our expert staffs are on-hand 24/7 to listen, reassure and assist. How strong is your child s English? Most of our local students speak English as their first language. At AIS, your child can benefit from teachers qualified to teach students who speak English as a second language. Do you think it s valuable to learn about many other cultures? One of the benefits of overseas study is the opportunity to learn about different people. As an international school, AIS students not only learn about life in Ghana, but also about cultures and traditions from all over the world. Do you want your child to be living on campus? For many children, starting school in another country is probably the first time they have lived away from home. At AIS we offer a unique resident program with accommodation that has 24-hour security and house parents so you know your child will be well looked after. All IGCSE and IBDP students stay in our boarding home. Homestay accommodation and secure residence off -campus is also an option for older children seeking an alternative experience. Do you think your child would benefit from advice and guidance on university applications? There is so much choice when it comes to finding the right university and course. At AIS we have close relationships with the widest possible range of universities in North America and Europe, so personal tutors and program managers can advise students on the right choice for them. Would your child prefer to study in a city or out in the countryside? The countryside is very beautiful, but living in a remote location can leave students feeling isolated. Studying in a city provides a wealth of places to visit, local people to meet and exciting things to explore. The city of Accra and the Airport Residential Area is a creative hub with strong academic connections. From museums, theatres and beaches to top universities, it is an inspiring place to learn.

d Our students are prepared for global success We believe that educating young students is not just about preparing them for exams, it is about preparing them to become successful global citizens who will make a difference. The AIS Difference AIS opens a world of opportunities for high school students from Asia, Africa as well as countries in the Western Hemisphere by providing them with a superior education, in preparation for top universities in Africa, Europe and North America and a future that knows no borders.

A warm welcome to our AIS boarding program for international students A message from the Head of School Choosing a school where your child will receive a first class education, feel at home and where the foundation for a successful future is laid and nurtured is one of the most important decisions a parent can make. I want to encourage you that AIS is the right choice. With over 30 years of experience in leading international schools in the Bahamas, the UK and USA, I know that students thrive when they feel happy and secure in their environment. We have a wonderful team of dedicated, committed, and kind residential staff who are available 24 hours a day. We aim to give our students the life skills and qualities they will need to become successful global citizens. Each year we see our students grow in confidence, gain outstanding academic results and establish international friendships that will last a lifetime. Audrey Doryumu (Mrs. D)

Meet our staff Our unique approach to education means exceptional teaching and support A first class International School situated as a gem in the Airport Residential Area, AIS has a team of highly specialized, skilled, dedicated and hardworking teachers. Our small class sizes allow for individual attention, and our Learning Resource Center supports ESL and SEN students, ensuring the highest standards and best practices in teaching and learning. Our commitment to high achievements for each of our students is comparable to none. Using internationally recognized examination bodies, the Cambridge IGCSE and IB Diploma Program, every subject is taught in modern classrooms equipped with the latest technology, and underpinned by enrichment and co-curricular programs as well as a keen appreciation of the Arts. This ensures that our students develop holistically and their potential is utilized for their future good, which takes learning beyond the classroom and into the wider world. Our facilities are peaceful, pleasant and secure, ensuring the comfort and safety of all our students. Dr. Suzanne Nti Head of Secondary We welcome students from all over the world as part of our diverse community. Join our excellent home away from home boarding experience in our state of the art facilities and eventually become a part of the association of notable alumni. Here at AIS, students have the opportunity to experience a life changing boarding experience. Structured independence in a safe and nurturing environment is what makes AIS s boarding program unique. The residential staff offer the students many opportunities to become leaders among their peers. Leadership workshops which have been specifically designed to develop leadership skills in young students are organized regularly. The residential team which comprises of the school counselor provides support, friendship and guidance twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Here at AIS, students learn about other cultures and make lifelong friends whiles also learning about themselves as individuals. Fredricka A. Agyapong School Counselor and Dorm Parent

Meet our staff What makes our boarding school feel like home? Dr. Mike Williams Dean of Faculty and Students AIS Boarding is unlike any other boarding facility I've seen, and nicer than most university dormitories I've experienced! With the concept of making a home-away-from-home and the intent of giving students an experience beyond anything offered in Ghana, AIS setout to develop facilities and experiences that are unique to no one else in the region. The rooms are comfortable, roomy, and have plenty of storage. The common and study areas are spacious, welcoming, and homey. Over the course of students' stay at AIS Boarding deep relationship are formed, with one another, AIS faculty, and with God. While teaching boarding students the independence needed to succeed in university and beyond, we also foster in our students the need for dependency upon God, as the only solid foundation for their lives. With their feet firmly planted on the ground in academics and discipline, we challenge students to develop their God-given talents and intellects to live as ambassadors of Christ for the Glory of God! At AIS, we know the importance of making our students feel at home. Being away from their families, at such young ages, can take a toll on their personal lives and their academics. Strong and healthy bonds are encouraged and facilitated between boarders and faculty to create a comfortable environment. With AIS being an International School, our boarding community prides itself on its cultural richness. Our boarders learn to develop integrity, tolerance and mutual respect by learning how to live with one another in harmony. As a Christian school, we work hard to instill great values in our students by having regular morning devotions, prayer sessions and attending church every Sunday. Student initiatives are strongly encouraged in order for them to learn to become accountable and take ownership for their choices throughout life. Stephanie Agyapong Dorm Parent and English Teacher

Participating in enrichment programs and especially in community service projects enables students to write a more targeted personal statement, and also these extra achievements or activities show that students have a high level of commitment and engagement with their chosen subject. Dhalia Sabeh CAS Coordinator (Creativity, Action and Service) and Admissions Director We encourage every student to take part in sports and fitness activities, which is an integral part of the AIS experience. We strive to offer a diverse and balanced program in which sports and fitness is one of the four critical pillars. Participation in sports develops the body physically while teaching teamwork, fair play, and cooperation with others. We have a fantastic range of activities on offer: from football, volleyball, basketball and tennis to track and field, modern dance, circuit training and more. There is something for every student to enjoy. Sports is an excellent outlet and provides an opportunity to unwind from the stresses of a heavy academic load. AIS Boarding provides a half-way house between home and Jerry Hodo Athletics Coordinator university. As a teacher and a dorm parent, I play a unique role in providing a sympathetic ear and ongoing support to our students. I am the person who students can come to about anything. I can help with personal worries such as home sickness and friendship problems or help them with extra lessons. I can setup extra help sessions with other instructors as well. If a parent is worried about their child they can also contact me. We are all here to support and do the best we can to help each young person his or her dreams. Joseph Botwe Dorm Parent and Math Teacher

Our Program is big. Our community is small. Boarding school is an opportunity to immerse yourself more deeply into your education, but also into your development as an individual. Living away from home, will build your confidence and independence. Academic opportunities specifically for residents will help you maintain the highest possible level of academic achievement as you prepare for University and life. At the Association International School, our Resident Program is designed to facilitate that discovery and achievement. The personal relationships that develop between our faculty and our students, between our students and each other, are the foundation for that discovery. You ll be immersed in an atmosphere where every student is encouraged to try new things, explore the world of possibilities available at AIS, and discover new interests and hidden talents. The size of our boarding program is one in a series of carefully designed elements to provide comfort and community; to foster growth and independence. Ours is a thriving, diverse culture, where students from all over the world come together to become active, engaged members of our community.

Did you Know? Our boarding facility is in the heart of the Airport Residential Area 4 Miles FROM THE HEART OF ACCRA 6 Hours FROM EUROPE 90 Miles FROM CAPE COAST 2 Hours FROM NIGERIA 154 Miles FROM KUMASI 15 Hours FROM ASIA Students from 30 Countries, 10 Regions in Ghana

Evening Studies Students gain new insights into their coursework as they work alongside friends in evening study halls or discuss global current events over breakfast with students from around the world. As a resident student, you have access to small-group or one-on-one coaching by teachers to help you sharpen your study strategies and learning skills and keep you focused on your academic goals. Resident life at AIS deepens your relationships with teachers and classmates and intensifies your academic growth and achievement. Learning to get along and understand different students from different cultures is enriching. It builds a healthy community of mutual respect, preparing students for the real global environment we now live and work in.

Living on campus extends the intellectual excitement and camaraderie of the school day into every area of your life.

Resident Coaching Resident Coaching is an evening program at AIS that offers boarders the opportunity to seek additional academic support from our AIS faculty. Resident Coaching also gives faculty an opportunity to flex their academic muscles, as teachers provide support in multiple disciplines. Many students take advantage of the program as a way to gain one-on-one time with a member of the faculty in a relaxed environment, to ask specific questions related to their studies, and to maximize the time designated for evening study hours in the dormitories. One of the many benefits of attending a boarding school is living among master teachers. Faculty are available to students during the evening hours when students are most often working through their independent coursework; formally through Resident Coaching and informally in the halls of the School s dormitories each night. Study Strategies Academic study groups help new 8th, 9th, and 10th graders form positive work habits and build a strong network of support for their academic success from peers and teachers. Group Study Informal peer-to-peer groups and tutoring offer additional support and build community. Resources Evening library hours provide vast resources for after school work and research.

Activities Living on campus makes the dynamic and culturally rich airport residential area your home town during the academic year. Association International School is within walking distance of the Accra and several shopping malls as well as Airport City. A dynamic bustling of shops and offices. It is also a few miles from Legon University and the center of Accra. Accra is a large cosmopolitan city with many interesting sites. Its cultural and traditional resources and its friendly people all make Accra a perfect setting for international students. Our five-day academic class schedule allows for a thoughtfully planned weekend program of activities and off-campus trips accessible to every student. Activities are designed to complement classroom learning-as well as provide informal time students need to relax, explore, and have fun with friends.

A glance of some of our Weekend Activities include: Trips to the movies the theaters Local historical and Cultural sites Supply Run to malls supermarkets CAS trips Planned sporting activities on campus and more...

Homely Accommodation Facilities The AIS experience is fundamentally about people and programs. However, dormitory life is a source of unity and school pride, much like graduation year. Each dormitory is a smaller communal entity in which students find unique traditions and a sense of belonging. Akosua Koramaa Dormitory This dormitory is home to sixty girls, Grade 8 to 12, and three faculty parents. They bond quickly and the spirit of support is a hallmark of this sorority. There is always an older girl or faculty member willing to talk or offer encouragement. The girls spend their time baking in faculty apartments, hanging out watching movies and television in the lounge. On the weekends the girls play sports, enjoy trips into town for lunch or shopping. There is always a reason to celebrate, from birthdays to holidays, to meaningful community service initiatives. Dr. Nkansah Gyan Dormitory This dormitory is home to forty boys, representing all five grades, and three faculty parents. It's a lively place where students play games in their free time. Boys constantly come and go between classes, practices, and time in town. Students are from all over the world, but food is the universal language. Most weekend afternoons student engage in a game of soccer or basketball or the boys settle in for an afternoon in the lounge. They may also choose to join an off campus trip or meaningful community service projects. Your child s safety is our top priority. We provide 24-hour security on-site and a secure entry system. Boys and girls bedrooms are in separate dorms and full catering is provided in our cafeteria.

Our modern on-campus student residence is bright, comfortable and secure. Students are looked after by their dorm parents to make them feel safe and happy. ON-CAMPUS STUDENT RESIDENCE BATHROOM FACILITIES LOUNGE AREA

Making the Right Choice... Students have the opportunity to study and live with peers while building trust and sharing common experiences. Students learn independence under the mentoring of boarding staff and teachers. Students pursue other non-academic interests like sports, arts, religious and community services. Our boarding house is a global village with students from all over the world, fostering cultural tolerance and unity in diversity.

Faculty People often remark about the unique feel of The Association International School culture. This is a special place, and the people who live and work here are the life of that legacy. As a boarding student at AIS, you join a community of students and teachers who are focused on living our shared values: the School s core principles of trust, respect, integrity, kindness, commitment, Christ-centeredness, and academic excellence. Resident faculty and student leaders foster a sense of structure, community, and common purpose. The entire community comes together for different sporting activities, international student dinners, and chapel. Resident faculty take the time to get to know you, they invite you into their lives. They serve as tutors, mentors, coaches, and dorm parents. Prefects Our Prefects are student leaders and serve in the Resident Life community. They are invaluable student resources in campus-life. They help new students adjust to life away from home and act as liaisons between students and faculty in the dormitories.
