The AASA Educational Administration Scholarship was created in 1949 to provide incentive, honor and financial assistance to out- standing graduate students in school administration who intend to make the school superintendency a career. The scholarships are given in the name of AASA s seven former executive directors. Recipients will be honored during AASA s National Conference on Education in Houston, Texas, February 16-18, 2012. Each award recipient receives a $2,500 scholarship and $500 for travel expenses. Applications will be available online from chairs of educational ad- ministration departments at universities that have such a program or online at http://www.aasa.org/content.aspx?id=5618. Only one candidate may be submitted by each college or university campus and each candidate must be recommended by the dean of the school of education in which the candidate is enrolled. If a nominee is selected to receive this award, the nominee must be a member of or apply for membership with AASA at the Aspiring Superintendent rate. Applications must be submitted by July 30, 2011. As a superintendent you will encounter problems to be solved and decisions to be made. Describe an administrative problem you have encountered. How did you handle it? On reflection, would you handle it differently? (If you have no administrative experience, select and describe a problem you have encountered when teaching in the classroom or in another educational setting.) C. Describe the skills, dispositions, experiences and traits you possess that would make you an attractive superintendent candidate to a district. One signed original and five photocopies of your letter of recommendation. 3. TWO LETTERS OF ENDORSEMENT In your application packet include: A one-page, single-spaced, 8½ x 11 typewritten letter from an officer of the school system in which you are employed or from a department member of the college/university you attend. A one-page, single-spaced, 8½ x 11 typewritten letter from a leading citizen of the community in which you have spent the major part of your professional career. Include title and contact information. Signed originals and five photocopies of each of your letters of endorsement. Note: Letters of recommendation and endorsement must be included with the application packet to be accepted. 4.
