ASHLAND OREDOCKER ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME GUIDELINES PURPOSE The School District of Ashland and the Oredocker athletic programs value the achievement of its athletes, coaches and community members. The Ashland Oredocker Hall of Fame will provide a lasting memory to the outstanding achievements of these individuals. The public display of their achievements will serve to advance the tradition and excellence of Oredocker athletics. AWARD CATEGORIES Individual Achievement Athletes who have been alum for at least ten (10) years are eligible for this award. These individuals shall have displayed a distinctive athletic accomplishment during their time at Ashland High School. Their influence on Oredocker athletics shall have been positive while making a noticeable impact. Although the selection is due in large part to accomplishments while at Ashland High School, a secondary emphasis will be placed on posthigh school achievement. Coaching Achievement Ashland School District coaches who have been retired for a minimum of five (5) years and current coaches with 30 years of experience and 15 years in Ashland are eligible for this award. Coaches will be recognized for their significant positive contributions in support and promotion of Oredocker athletics. Their influence on Oredocker Athletics shall have been positive while making a noticeable impact. Although the selection is due in large part to accomplishments at Ashland High School, a secondary emphasis will be placed on achievements at other levels and institutions. Distinguished Service This award is to recognize special community contributors who have supported Oredocker athletics in an exemplary manner. Ashland youth sports coaches would fall under this category.
SELECTION PROCESS AND PROCEDURES Nominations Nominations to the Oredocker Athletic Hall of Fame shall be submitted electronically or by hardcopy to the high school athletic office by December 31 st to be considered for the upcoming year. Nominations shall include the prescribed nomination form and three (3) letters of recommendation. The nomination form, letters of recommendations, and the attached rubric (which will be completed by the athletic department) will comprise the basis for a candidate to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Nominees may roll over for up to five years, remaining in the pool of potential inductees. After five years the nomination procedure will need to be repeated. A nominee should not only signify achievement but be a person of high moral character and integrity. Background information such as felonies would disqualify a person from becoming a nominee. Selection Committee The selection committee will be comprised of 20-25 people, who will be listed on the school website. The selection committee will meet on May 1 (the date may be adjusted by one to two days to avoid conflicts or weekends) to review the year s nominees. The committee shall include representatives of, but not be limited to: AHS Athletic Director Ashland Daily Press Bad River Chamber of Commerce Community Members (balance of genders) Field Improvement Team Northland College Oredocker Foundation PTO or other parent/school organizations WITC SDA Superintendent Youth Sports Organizations Voting Process The athletic office will conduct a vote, with committee members voting either electronically or via paper ballot. The voting window will last from the day following the selection committee meeting until June 1. The first year of induction (HOF class of 2014) the selection committee, from the list of nominees and their bios and scoring rubric, will assign a ranking of one to twelve (1-12), with twelve (12) being high, up to twelve (12) nominees. Nominees must be listed on 75% of ballots cast to be considered for induction. Of the nominees meeting this threshold the ten (10) nominees with the most points will be considered the inductees for the first year. The second year of induction (HOF class of 2015) the selection committee, from the list of nominees and their bios and scoring rubric, will assign a ranking of one to ten (1-10), with ten (10) being high, up to ten (10) nominees. Nominees must be listed on 75% of ballots cast to be considered for induction. Of the nominees meeting this threshold the eight (8) nominees with the most points will be considered the inductees for the second year.
The third year of induction (HOF class of 2016) the selection committee, from the list of nominees and their bios and scoring rubric, will assign a ranking of one to eight (1-8), with eight (8) being high, up to eight (8) nominees. Nominees must be listed on 75% of ballots cast to be considered for induction. Of the nominees meeting this threshold the six (6) nominees with the most points will be considered the inductees for the third year. The fourth year of induction, and all years thereafter (HOF class of 2017 and all HOF classes after) the selection committee, from the list of nominees and their bios and scoring rubric, will assign a ranking of one to five (1-5), with five (5) being high, up to five (5) nominees. Nominees must be listed on 75% of ballots cast to be considered for induction. Of the nominees meeting this threshold the four (4) nominees with the most points will be considered the inductees for that year. The inductees shall be notified and announced by July 1. The inductees will be honored at a formal banquet/dinner to be held on Thursday evening of homecoming week. This will be the official Ashland Oredocker Athletc Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Inductees will be honored with a plaque to be displayed at Ashland High School and another for their personal collection. Inductees will also be recognized at the homecoming assembly on Friday afternoon, homecoming football game on Friday night, and included in the homecoming parade. Once inducted into the Ashland Oredocker Athletic Hall of Fame, inductees are expected to maintain high moral character and ethical behavior as demonstrated by the criteria for becoming an inductee. These inductees stand as a role model for citizenship and future Oredocker athletes. Extreme violation of this standard may result in the removal from the Hall of Fame. Removal will be recommended by and voted on by the selection committee.
