The International School @ ParkCity

Welcome from the Head of Secondary Welcome from the Head of Secondary Dear Students and Parents, Welcome to Key Stage 4 at the International School @ ParkCity. I hope that you find this booklet, combined with the Options Information booklet, a useful guide in helping you to make the right choices at Key Stage 4. At Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9) all students follow the same curriculum that introduces students to a wide range of subjects and disciplines. When students reach Year 10 they are ready to make decisions and are in a better position to choose subjects based on their individual skills, talents and interests. The IGCSE Key Stage 4 (Years 10 & 11) curriculum is designed to provide students with a broad and balanced range of courses whilst enabling them to experience different aspects of subject areas. The curriculum has been carefully chosen to prepare students for the demands and rigours of Key Stage 5 (Years 12 & 13) and beyond, whilst opening their eyes to new possibilities. This is a significant phase in ISP students lives and it is important that the right choices are made for the right reasons. Therefore the teaching staff at ISP will give as much guidance and advice as is necessary to ensure each student has chosen a suitable path at Key Stage 4. At Key Stage 4 we encourage students to be open-minded, independent and critical thinkers. It is important that they take ownership of their education and engage fully with the curriculum. Our expectations are high but we believe that all students will reach, and exceed, their potential with the right support, attitude and work ethic. It is important to remember that Key stage 4 is not just about academic success, therefore all students are encouraged to follow their interests and talents outside of the classroom. At ISP we feel that these activities are a crucial part of the curriculum. All students will follow nonexamination programmes in PE, International Award and COALS. Co-Curricular Activities combined with leadership opportunities and a wide range of events and opportunities are a regular part of the ISP calendar and enable all students to embrace and develop the ISP Core Values and Learning Habits that encourage the essential skills they need to be successful in their chosen careers. Simon Taylor Head of Secondary
