Westminster Cathedral Catholic Primary School Founded by The Jesuit Fathers Circa 1849 Newsletter 19th January 2017 Love one another as I have loved you John 13:34 Praying with Pope Francis Peace, Salaamata, Asomdwoe, Alaafia, Paix, Shaom, Pace, Pax, Paz, Pokoj Dear parents and carers, Peace Sunday Last Sunday, Holy Apostles shared Pax Christi s Peace Sunday. We were asked as a school to present some art work. Each class thought about PEACE and the symbols of Peace. They presented some beautiful pieces of work which were admired by the congregation. We hope you were able to see the art work at Holy Apostles. For the world-wide Catholic Church there is one preplanned Prayer Intention for each month. Pope Francis has asked that there needs to be a second urgent action intention to be issued each month. This month we have been asked to pray for Christian Unity and for the homeless people affected by the cold. As it is winter, please think of people living on the streets, affected by the cold and by the indifference of others. We pray for them and ask the Lord to warm the hearts of others to help them. For more information about the Pope s request please visit www.apostleshipofprayer.org In assembly this week, we talked about how we can bring Peace into our hearts and minds and how we can spread Peace. When we say our prayers this week we are to picture the symbols of peace in our minds. We will also spread peace by talking to others and offering a smile. Parish Links: Mass next week. Father Pat will be saying a New Year Mass next Thursday, 26th January at 9.30am in the School Hall. Everyone is more than welcome to attend. Pupil Voice: Year 2 visit to St Paul s Cathedral. Yesterday we travelled on the tube to St Paul s Cathedral. As we approached, we saw the dome and the garden outside the Cathedral. We entered the Cathedral and met a lady who showed us around. We did a role play of the Great Fire of London. Some of us dressed up as firemen, Alexandra dressed up as Samuel Pepys, Christopher B dressed up as King Charles II and Santiago dressed up as Christopher Wren. Christopher Wren designed and built St Paul s Cathedral. We sat in the dome, which was a circle. We learnt that Christopher Wren s favourite shape was a circle. We lay down on the ground and looked up at the ceiling. In the mosaic on the ceiling we saw pictures of nature including the forest and sea. We went up the stairs into the Whispering Gallery. If you spoke towards the wall and if you put our ear to it, you can hear what is being said from the other side. I really enjoyed the Whispering Gallery (Elijah) and I liked sitting in the dome (Macy). Macy Sparks and Elijah Lawal. Year 1 are at St. Paul s Cathedral today. Our celebration assembly tomorrow will be at 9.15am due to the School Disco in the afternoon, all are welcome.
