Introduction to Quizzes Use the Quizzes tool to preview and grade your quizzes; view quizzes by category or availability; view current, future, and past quizzes; and view quiz statistics. 2

Editing Quiz Settings Disable Right-Click 1. Click the Properties tab. 2. Click Expand optional advanced properties to choose to allow hints, to disable right click, to disable pager access and alerts, and to be sent a notification email. Check the appropriate box for your preferences. 3. Click Save and Close. Adding a Password 1. Click the Restrictions tab. 2. Click the link to Expand optional advanced restrictions to type a password for the quiz. Passwords are required for proctored exams. 3

3. Click Save and Close. Submission Views 1. Click the Submissions View tab. 2. To change the default view, click the Default View link. 3. Under View Details, click Yes and choose options for elements of answered questions users see. Click No to not show any questions to students after they submit their quiz. 4

4. Check Show attempt score and overall attempt score to allow students to see their score as soon as they submit their attempt. 5. Click Save. Creating Reports 1. Click the Reports Setup tab to create a customized summary of quiz statistics for your viewing. 2. Click Add Report. 5

3. Type a Report Name. 4. Choose the options that you would like to see in the report. 5. Scroll down and choose the Release date. 6. Choose the audience to whom you would like the report released. 7. Click Save. 6

7

Grade a Quiz 1. Select Grade from the context menu of the quiz to be graded. 2. Click the quiz attempt you wish to grade. 3. Add overall quiz feedback in the Attempt Comments textbox. 4. Add feedback on an individual question by clicking Expand question feedback below the question. 8

5. Enter the number of points earned in the Score field for each question. 6. The Final Score field will automatically update to reflect the changes made. 7. Click Save and Close. 9

Grade by Question and Blind Marking Grade Individual Responses enables you to grade a quiz one question at a time. This means you can grade and leave feedback for all responses to each question before moving onto the next question. There are two additional options available in this view: Blind Marking: When selected, student information does not appear alongside responses and responses display in a shuffled order. This aids in preventing unintentional bias during grading. 1. While on the Grade Quiz page, click the Questions tab to view quiz responses by question. 2. Make sure Grade Individual Responses is selected. If you want to hide student information while grading, check the Blind Marking box. 3. Click on a question to start grading. You can adjust the number of responses shown per page in the drop-down list above the responses. 10

4. Enter the Score and Feedback for each response and click Save and Continue to save the scores and go to the next page of responses. 5. When you are finished, click Save or Save and Continue to grade more questions. 11

Update All Attempts Update All Attempts enables you to view question statistics, make grading changes, and leave feedback for all responses to the selected question. Give to all attempts allows you to award points to all users who received the current question on their quiz. Type the desired point value in the text field. Give to attempts with answer (#) allows you to award points for a specific response. This is useful if a question was incorrectly set up when the quiz was created. For example, if students who completed the quiz received a grade value of 0 when they really should have received a grade value of 1, you can use this option to award them the appropriate grade value. 1. While grading a quiz, click the Questions tab to view quiz responses by question. 2. Select Update All Attempts and then click on the question you want to grade. 12

Submit an Attempt in Progress Sometimes a student may not submit their quiz or there may have been a problem when they tried to submit it. You can view an attempt in progress and submit the quiz for the student if necessary. 1. Select Grade from the context menu of the appropriate quiz. 2. In the Restrict to drop-down list, select Users with attempts in progress. 3. Click Search. 13

4. Click Enter Quiz as user. 5. Click Yes in the Confirmation window. 6. Click Go To Submit Quiz at the bottom of the screen. Submit the quiz for the student. 14

Reset an Attempt When you reset an attempt, it is permanently deleted. There will be no record of the student taking the exam. They will be able to retake it as if they were taking it for the first time. 1. Select Grade from the context menu of the appropriate quiz. 2. Click Display Options. 3. Check the Allow Reset box if it is not already selected and click Save. 15

4. Check the box next to the attempt you want to delete. 5. Click Reset at the top or bottom of the list. 6. In the confirmation window, click Yes. 16

Preview a Quiz 1. Select Preview from the context menu of the quiz to see the quiz as the student will see it. 2. Click Start Quiz. 3. When you are finished previewing, click Exit Preview. 17

Viewing Quiz Statistics View and export quiz statistics and reports to a CSV file for data analysis. The CSV file contains all pertinent information on the quiz so that you can query, sort, and evaluate the data without being connected to D2L. In this view, you can see a list of quizzes for the course. The average grade for each quiz is displayed beside the quiz name. 1. Select Statistics from the context menu of the quiz. 2. On the View Statistics page, click the User Stats, Question Stats, and Question Details tabs to view statistics broken down by user and by question. 3. Click Export to CSV file if you want to save the quiz's statistics to your computer. User Stats The CSV files contain performance data by user, including: the user s ID, username, first name, last name, quiz score, the value the quiz was graded out of, the user s score as a percentage, and the class average. Question Stats The CSV files contain data about the average score on questions by points and percentage. The question title, text, bonus status, and difficulty level are included in the CSV file so that data can be analyzed without referring back to the learning management system. Question Details The CSV files contain detailed information about each question, including a list of all of the answers provided for each quiz attempt, how many users chose each possible answer, the total number of responses, and the average score on the question. Question Details reports can help you evaluate trends in answers and look for questions that were unclear or difficult for a number of users. 18

The question title, text, bonus status, and difficulty level are included in the CSV file so that data can be analyzed without referring back to the learning management system. Add Special Access 1. Click the Restrictions tab. 2. Scroll down to Special Access and select one of the options. Allow selected users special access to this quiz For most cases, you will leave this option selected. This option allows selected students to have special access as specified and all other students will have regular access. Allow only users with special access to see this quiz This option will hide the quiz completely from the rest of the students. ONLY the students that you add to the special access list will be able to see and access this quiz. 3. Click Add Users to Special Access. 19

4. Special Access Properties You only have to set the options that differ from the original quiz setup. a. To Assign Special Date Availability click the Has Start Date and/or Has End Date boxes and enter the appropriate dates and times. b. To Assign Special Time Limit select the option next to Enforced time limit. Enter the new Time Limit. 5. In the bottom half of the window, check the box next to the student(s) you would like to give special access to and then click Add Special Access. 6. Click Save and Close. 20
