This task assesses the skills an knowlege require to meet the Functional Skills stanars at Entry 3 for Writing. At this level the learner can: Write texts with some aaptation to the intene auience. The learner will: Plan, raft an organise writing. Sequence writing logically an clearly. Use asic grammar incluing appropriate ver-tense an suject-ver agreement. Check work for accuracy, incluing spelling. Centre Contextualisation of Tasks It is envisage that teaching an learning approaches will unerpin the knowlege neee for the assessments. So that learners are not isavantage y their lack of knowlege aout specific topics the centre may alter the context of the writing assessment, ut care shoul e taken to ensure that all the stanars are covere. Centres may evise their own assessments ase on the stanars, ut in this case the assessment must e sumitte to NOCN for approval at least 15 working ays efore the planne use with learners. All new assessments, whether contextualise or centre evise must use the NOCN prouce mark scheme. The contextualise assessment must e availale at the External Quality Assurance visit. Conucting an marking the assessments At all Entry levels, tutors are allowe to rea the instructions for the task ONLY. Please note that any rafts of work shoul e hane in after the assessment an they will e assesse. Assessors must complete a recor sheet for each learner to give evience of how the criteria have een met. The NOCN mark scheme must e use for all assessments, even when contextualise or a new assessment written. The English component assessments may take place on ifferent ays to help centre management of the assessments. The component assessments may e split up ut the total amount of time availale to learners must not excee the permitte uration of the assessment. Assessments can take place in the classroom, although learners shoul not e isavantage y the environment. The Writing assessment must e complete in no more than one hour. To successfully pass the Writing assessment, the learner must achieve a pass for the paper. Page 1 of 7

If the learner oes not pass part of the assessment, a ifferent writing assessment may e retaken after two weeks, ut some teaching an learning must take place in this perio of time to ensure that the learner has the opportunity to improve their skills.
