Nomination and Award Process Sam Houston State University will nominate 30 students and 10 alternates for the Terry Foundation Freshman Scholarship. From this pool of nominees, the Terry Foundation will choose to make approximately 14 scholarship awards for use during the 2018-19 academic year. Please note that Sam Houston State University serves as a nominating body only; all final decisions regarding scholarship awards are made by the Terry Foundation. Eligibility Requirements To be considered for a SHSU Terry Foundation Freshman Scholarship, students must: Demonstrate a record of leadership and service; Demonstrate strong academic abilities, as evidenced by grades and standardized test scores; Demonstrate financial need; Be a citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.; Be attending a Texas high school or be a home-schooled Texas resident during the 2017-18 academic year; Apply for admission to SHSU by January 1, 2018; Apply for financial aid, using the FAFSA, by March 1, 2018 First-year Terry Scholars are required to live on campus. On campus housing applications and deposits are required upon award of scholarship. Application Submission Requirements For an application to be considered complete, Terry Freshman Scholarship applicants must submit: Complete Application with essays, typed, digitally signed, and electronically submitted to terryscholar@shsu.edu Two (2) Letters of Recommendation, on official stationary, addressing your academic and leadership abilities and not written by a family member regardless of professional status. At least one of the letters must be written by a core subject teacher (English, math, history, science, language). Mailed letters must be signed by the writer. You may use the address listed below for the letters. A signature is preferred but not required on scanned, emailed letters sent from the high school or business email address to terryscholar@shsu.edu.
