BOURNE GRAMMAR SCHOOL BULLETIN Week ending Friday 8 July 2016 From Jonathan Maddox, Headteacher NEW YEAR 7 PARENTS MEETINGS It was a very great pleasure to welcome the parents and carers of our 240 new Year 7 students into School on Monday and Tuesday evenings, in order for them to meet the new Year 7 tutors and to find out more about the Induction Day and the start of the new School year. Photographed are some of the many Year 11 students - their GCSE examinations now finished - who will be Year 7 prefects next year. They also had a key role to play at today s Year 7 Induction Day. I was really impressed by their contributions to the evening; all were superbly turned-out, they spoke confidently with the parents and could not have been more helpful. "1

ART EXHIBITION Last week, the Art Department exhibited artwork by GCSE and A-Level students for parents and students to view. Adam Thompson (Year 7) wrote the following about the exhibition: In the exhibition, there was a huge variety of different styles of artworks. There were many sketchbooks laid out showing the students ideas, inspirations and initial studies and some massive acrylic canvases with their own unique ideas. A very contrasting exhibition it turned out to be, with many strange but wonderful works of Art. The following photos show students viewing the exhibition during the School day. "2

CONGRATULATIONS TO MOLLY - Mr Graves, PE Department During Open Evening last week, I was delighted to receive a message from the father of Molly Bull (Year 8) with the words All signed!. They were on their way back from the King Power Stadium, home of Premier League Champions Leicester City - Molly had just signed for next year s Leicester City Under 14 s side. At the beginning of the month she attended three trials and will now play in the top tier of girls football, with games against Arsenal, Birmingham and Southampton to name a few. To play at this level will be a big step for her, but one that I have no doubt she will thrive in. She knows that she has the full support of the School and we look forward to watching her development in the coming season. I personally cannot wait to hear about a victory against Arsenal a heavy win with a clean sheet would be great! FORTHCOMING EVENTS AT BOURNE GRAMMAR SCHOOL There are still some tickets available for the Summer Concert and our annual MADD Evening; both events will be taking place next week and more details can be found below. For each evening, adult tickets are 6 and concession tickets are 4 - please bring your tickets with you to the events. Summer Concert - Monday 11 July - 7pm The Summer Concert will feature all of the School s musical ensembles and solo performances from GCSE and A Level students, including composition work from GCSE students. There will also be a special performance from the members of 7B, who will be performing as a class brass ensemble following the work done in lessons with a specialist brass tutor. Tickets are available from https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/event/137242. MADD Evening - Wednesday 13 July - 7pm Students will perform a variety of Music, Dance and Drama pieces at our annual MADD Evening, with artwork made by students outside of lessons displayed in The Chill. Tickets can be booked at https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/event/137243. "3

ARTWORK The following pieces were made by Year 8 students - the first is a watercolour landscape painting, and the second is a pencil sketch of the view from a window in the Art Department, overlooking the School field. Qasim Shah Harrison Gray INDIVIDUAL ACHIEVEMENTS Triathlon Neve Hattee (Year 10) secured the East Midlands Triathlons Series Youth title (for 15 and 16 year olds) after winning her fifth race this season at Foremark Hall in Derbyshire last weekend.
