About OCL Workshops Do you want to learn how to create a website? Are you struggling with getting the right format for your research paper? Or are you just looking to improve your technical skills? Woodbridge Open Computer Lab (Seefeldt Building: Room 336) offers free workshops for all NOVA students on various IT topics. You can schedule a workshop by emailing hazamy@nvcc.edu with the date/time and your topic of interest. The OCL staff will work with your schedule to set up a time convenient for you. These workshops are conducted both in person and remotely for those who are not able to physically attend the Woodbridge campus. This catalog includes information on the workshops currently offered by the OCL (further topics maybe requested by contacting hazamy@nvcc.edu).

3D Modeling SketchUp and TinkerCad(60 minutes): Are you interested in creating your own 3D models? Attend this workshop to learn two free 3D modeling software: TinkerCad and Sketchup. By the end of this workshop, you will get familiar with: Four free cloud services (Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, and OneDrive) Their user-interface and how to add/edit/delete/share files The pros and cons of each service Computer Basics Computer Basics (45-60 minutes): This workshop is designed for students who are not as familiar with technology and using computers. Attend this workshop to learn the basics of operating an ipad. You will also learn some tips, tricks, and hidden features of an ipad. Web Basics (45-60 minutes): This workshop covers the basics of browsing the Internet and searching for information on the web. Open a browser Visit websites using the browser address bar Search for a topic using a search engine Search for images Search and watch videos using YouTube website Computer Hardware A Look Inside a Computer (60 minutes): Ever wondered what is inside a computer and how does it work? Attend this hands-on workshop where you will open a computer case and reassemble it. By the end of this workshop, you will learn about: Different components of a computer and their function Various computer cables and ports and their usage How a computer works and carries its functions Computer Security Removing a Virus on Windows OS (60 minutes): Do you want to learn how to remove a virus from your Windows computer? Attend this workshop to learn what steps to take to remove a virus or any other type of malware from your computer. You will be introduced to some free virus removal as well as antivirus tools to use in order to protect your computer from getting infected. Please note that this workshop is specifically designed for Windows 7 operating systems. 4

Security Awareness: Protect your PC and Personal Data (30-45 minutes): Is your computer and data protected? Are you familiar with all the technology threats surrounding you? Attend this workshop to get familiar with technology threats which may compromise your computer and personal data. This workshop will provide you with information on: Different types of malware and their harms to your PC Ways to protect your PC and personal information from unauthorized use by: Using anti-virus software Changing browser settings Personal practices Steps to take if your information/computer has been compromised Disability Software: Read & Write Gold, Jaws, Kurzweil, and Zoomtext (15-20 minutes each): Read and Write Gold, and Zoomtext are accessibility software that include features to help make computer accessable for students with disabilities. Read and Write Gold: Includes features such as screen readers and word predictors to assist students use a computer without viewing the screen. Zoomtext: Developed for visually impaired computer users enabling them to magnify computer screen Event Scheduling Tools Doodle, SignUpGenius, and WhenIsGood (60 minutes): Whether you are scheduling a group event or a meeting with individual members of your team, the free event scheduling tools will help automate this process saving you a significant amount of time. In this workshop, you will learn about: Three free event planning tools (Doodle, SignUpGenius, and WhenIsGood): Creating events and inviting others Managing the attendees and editing an event Google Apps and Collaboration Google Drive & Docs (45-60 minutes): Want to use MS Office programs, but can t afford the cost?
