Minutes of the meeting held on February 17, 2016 The minutes of the meeting held on February 17, 2016 were distributed electronically. The minutes were moved and accepted as written. Dean Cooper shared information sent via Read Green from Vice Provost David DeJong regarding the process to update Pitt s Planning and Budgeting System (PBS). The Office of the Provost is asking for input and Dean Cooper asked that Committee members participate in the survey. 2. Goal 4: Build Foundational Strength (Dean N. John Cooper) Dean Cooper asked Senior Assistant Dean Michele Colvard to lead discussion of Goal 4. Senior Assistant Dean Colvard outlined the unit goals that the Dietrich School will employ to build foundational strength. Unit goals include transforming the information infrastructure to better support VOL. 47, NO. 9 APRIL 15, 2016 recruitment, research, learning, and operational efficiency; improving communication and collaboration between academic and business units to strengthen administrative and operational efficiency; and enhance the School s ability to partner internally, as well as with public and private partners locally, nationally, and globally. The Goal 4 draft was discussed by the Committee and then was moved and accepted. 3. Executive Summary (Dean N. John Cooper) Dean Cooper introduced the executive summary as a condensation of the information presented in the body of the document and reviewed the summary with the Committee. Dean Cooper reminded the Committee that this was the last scheduled meeting of the Committee before the Planning Document is due to the Provost March 1. The Committee was asked whether it would like to meet again before the document was submitted, but the sense of the meeting was that an additional meeting was unnecessary. The Executive Summary and the plan to move the full document forward to submission was moved and accepted. 4. Other Business Dean Cooper expressed his gratitude to the Associate and Senior Assistant Deans for their hard work in drafting and creating a dramatically different document this year. With no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 11:35 a.m. APPOINTMENTS AFRICANA STUDIES Felix Germain Faculty Personnel Actions 1. DIETRICH SCHOOL GAZETTE VOL. 47, NO. 9 APRIL 15, 2016
