Students experienced Bocce, Dancing, Waiter/Waitress Racing, Singing, Pizza making, Giochi (Pin the tail on the Donkey), Art, Story-time, Gelati and all costumes were fantastic. Our parents baking, donuts, jelly and much more was delicious!! A note from Miss Paglianiti and pictures on page 5 & 6. Our Yr. 5/6 students presented Round 2 of the House debates yesterday and on the performance front our Mad on Music students rocked the stage at St Margaret Mary s, Brunswick North last Thursday. Along with class teachers I ask mums and dads to encourage their children to learn songs and lines for our upcoming concert on Thursday September 11. Please make sure you have purchased your tickets by this Friday Thanks to staff, students and parents who completed the Annual School Improvement Survey over past weeks. We look forward to using the data in our efforts with continual improvement at St Gabriel s. ORDER YOUR ST GABRIEL S CONCERT TICKETS BY THIS FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 5 PLEASE NOTE: SEATS NOT SOLD BY THE END OF THIS WEEK WILL GO ON GENERAL SALE NEXT WEEK St Gabriel s Great Washing Afternoon Thursday October 9 th 2014 Last week on Thursday August 28 th a very special package went home to all families to celebrate all our journeys to Australia from many different countries over time. Families were invited to design a tea towel about a country that is special to them. Every student received a white cotton tea towel, fabric markers (one pack per family to share) and even some wooden pegs to write on! These will be returned to school in readiness for after school on Thursday October 9 th when all families are invited to participate in the St Gabriel s Great Washing Afternoon! Clothes lines will be strung up around the poles in the bottom yard and all families can peg their tea towels on the line. Afternoon tea/sausage sizzle will be provided more details about that at a later date. Completed tea towels & pegs along with the fabric markers are to be returned to school by Monday September 15 th (Term 3 Week 10) OR on Monday October 6 th (Term 4 Week 1). Have a great time together making your tea towels. Teacher Professional Learning COMMUNITY CLASSROOMS: Katrina Powell and Amanda Smith will be attending a Professional Development session on Wednesday 3rd September. The topic is 'Community Classrooms: Engaging families in learning at home and school'. The purpose of this activity is to develop ideas in order to improve family engagement in children's learning at St Gabriel's and to workshop ideas about how we can make this easier for families. Italian Cultural Day On Friday August 29 th we all celebrated Italian Day. Thank you to parents and grandparents for celebrating this day with the children and joining in and having fun, for sending your child along to school in their wonderful, creative, colourful costumes to embrace the Italian culture. Thank you to parents and friends for preparing the grand sale! The zippuli (Italian doughnuts) were a big hit! Thank you to all the staff and our special volunteers! The children spent the day participating in a number of activities such as; singing and dancing to popular Italian music, playing soccer and bocce, playing games in the Italian room, cooking The Paglianiti Margherita Pizza, relays, story-time (Pinocchio, Strega Nonna and Olivia goes to Venice), art work (making the Italian flag with lasagna sheets, pasta jewellery, sketching Italian landmarks etc etc.. And then the entrance of the gelati van! What excitement it brought to the atmosphere! Thank you again to everyone for a wonderful day. Snap shots of the day are below.
