Radiography Information Session This is a required session that you must listen to when applying to the Radiography Program. At the end of the program, you will be directed to complete and submit some important forms. You will need to download and print from the program website the following: 1. Program Accreditation The Radiography Program at the Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology. (JRCERT) Graduates receiving their degrees meet eligibility requirements to take the national certification exam administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Please Note: Eligibility for the ARRT examination requires that the candidate be of good moral character. Conviction of a felony or misdemeanor may indicate a lack of good moral character for ARRT purposes. It is strongly suggested that applicants visit the website at www.arrt.org to download a special eligibility application to determine if a conviction would interfere with exam eligibility.
Program Description Program completion requires two years of instruction after formal admission into the program 18 students are admitted every August The program is a mixture of didactic and clinical coursework. You must maintain a C average in all courses. Some semesters may require as many as 30 40 hours per week of student involvement.
Technical Standards All radiography applicants should possess: 1. Sufficient visual acuity, such as is needed in the accurate preparation and administration of contrast media and for the observation necessary for patient assessment and nursing care; 2. Sufficient auditory perception to receive verbal communication from patients and members of the health team and to assess health needs of people through the use of monitoring devices such as cardiac monitors, stethoscopes, intravenous infusion pumps, fire alarms, etc;
Technical Standards 3. sufficient gross and fine motor coordination to respond promptly and to implement the skills, including the manipulation of equipment, positioning and lifting patients required in meeting health needs related to radiologic technology; 4. Sufficient motor skills (speech, reading, writing) to interact with individuals and to communicate their needs promptly and effectively, as may be necessary in the patient s/ clients interest; 5. Sufficient intellectual and emotional functions to plan and implement care for individuals.

Clinical Education Component Each semester includes a Clinical Education Course. Clinical sites are located in many areas both in and out of Bowling Green. Students cannot request specific clinical sites. All students should expect to have to drive to out of town clinical sites. (No exceptions) Students cannot go to a clinical site where they or immediate family are employed.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS In order to be considered for admission to the radiography program, the applicant must submit the following no later than MARCH 1 of the year in which you are applying. 1. Application to SKYCTC (Radiography Application) 2. OFFICIAL transcripts of all postsecondary (college) education. (including from SKYCTC). 3. American College Test (ACT) score or Compass score reports. 4. Viewing Verification Form. This form documents that the applicant has viewed the video of program orientation material.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER: It is the applicant s responsibility to ensure that all of the previous four items are in the admission folder in the Allied Health Department. Postsecondary transcripts from all colleges (even SKYCTC) must be placed into the folder. SKYCTC does NOT automatically place a transcript into an applicant s folder. If the applicant s ACT scores are low, or if the applicant has not taken the ACT, they may take the Compass Test (developed by ACT) at the SKYCTC Assessment center. It is strongly suggested that the applicant consult the ACT website: www.act.org and review the practice questions for the Compass. Radiography Program faculty suggest that an applicant make a visit to the Allied Health Department sometime prior to the March 1 st date and review their file for any possible missing information. Once the March 1 st deadline occurs, an applicant CANNOT add any additional information to their folder.
SELECTIVE ADMISSIONS After the March 1 st date, all applicant information is gathered and reviewed by the Admission Committee. The members of this committee include: Radiography Program Director Radiography Clinical Coordinator Dean of Allied Health Admissions Officer Admissions Counselor
SELECTIVE ADMISSIONS Admission to the program is based on the following preference criteria: 1. Completion of BOTH semesters of Anatomy and Physiology. Also completion of MAT 150 (College Algebra) and PH171 (Applied Physics) or PHY152 (Introductory Physics II). 2. ACT scores (if applicable) must have a composite score of at least 21. If the applicant is using Compass scores, the Algebra score must be at least 55, Reading score at least 84 and Writing score at least 70. 3. The cumulative GPA of all general education courses taken that are applicable to the radiography program curriculum. If there are more than 18 applicants, at least 10 credits of general education coursework must be completed.

This must be signed by you and returned to the Radiography Program as proof that you have completed this Advisement Session. Also, print out the Radiography Program Application sheet this will need to be turned in with the Viewing Verification form. (Must still make application to the college.)
