PPGES Assistant Principal Summative Evaluations The assistant principal summative evaluation process is grounded in the Principal Performance Standards framework consisting of six standards. Evaluators will look for trends and patterns in practice across multiple types of evidence and apply their professional judgment based on this evidence. The standards are designed to support student achievement and professional best practice. It is expected that most assistant principals will maintain an Accomplished rating, but will occasionally have exemplary performance on standards at any given time. (JCPS Certified Evaluation Plan 5.0) In addition to the ratings on the six standards, assistant principals are to be evaluated on the Student Growth Goal and the Working Conditions Goal (both inherited from the principal) and their Professional Growth Planning and Self- Reflection. A variety of other categories of evidence may be used in determining overall ratings and are listed in the JCPS Certified Evaluation plan 5.0 pages 31-44. The PPGES evaluation process is designed to provide continuous feedback, and to instill the practices of self-reflection, goal-setting, and professional growth in the assistant principal. Principal s Role Distribute Reflective Practice, Student Growth, TELL KY / Val-Ed 360 Working Conditions and Professional Growth Planning Template to all assistant principals for completion. Optional distribute Optional Reflection Assistant Principal Summative Evaluation template to gather evidence for each standard. Utilize Determining the Overall Performance in PPGES as a step-by-step guide. Plan for the conference and develop key questions based upon data, evidence, reflection, and identified areas for growth in order to guide the conversation. Draft Principal Performance Evaluation Form PPGES 3 and conference with assistant principals prior to June 30 (last work day for assistant principals is June 2). Ratings of or require a narrative. Provide specific, evidence-based feedback. Revise the document as needed. Obtain assistant principal(s) signature. Provide a copy to the assistant principal, keep a copy for the principal file, and retain original for submission to HR. Input the ratings into CIITS/EDS (See attached quick reference card). o Each standard o Professional Practice o Student Growth Rating using local decision rules (Enter N/A for State Contribution) Assistant Principal s Role Review the indicators for each of the six Principal Performance Standards. Complete reflective practice template(s) as directed by the principal to provide evidence toward summative ratings. Gather other evidence as needed for submission as evidence of professional growth. Prepare for the summative conference in order to share progress. Identify possible next steps in professional growth. Review final ratings in EDS. Optional: record comments. Important to Remember No rating will apply for the state Student Growth Goal this year. If data on the local Student Growth Goal is not yet available (i.e. KPREP was used as the measure), professional judgment will be utilized. The Working Conditions Goal is a two-year goal based upon TELL data; therefore, the reflection will be focused on progress toward the goal and may include steps/procedures/plans put in place to address growth toward the goal. The type of Professional Growth Plan is based upon the Professional Practice Rating and the Student Growth Rating and determines whether the 2016-2017 PGP is developed by the evaluatee or evaluator.
