What s happening at our Pre-Prep? Madingley Reception Forest School Date: Thursday mornings during first half term Location: Madingley Mrs Angetter-Hannam, who is a trained level 3 Forest School teacher, will take the Madingley reception class out to various local woodlands within walking distance of the school. The children will have the chance to engage in a number of forest school activities such as den building, scavenger hunts and cooking over an open fire. Reception Diwali morning at Madingley Date: Fri 11th Nov Location: Madingley The children will all come together, along with the Reception classes from Dame Bradbury s, for an interactive and hands on learning experience to find out what Diwali is, who celebrates it and how it is celebrated. History Observation Sedgwick Museum Date: Weds 11th Nov Location: Madingley Date: Tues 22nd Nov Location: City In this session the children will have the opportunity to observe or handle a variety of sources, including animal skeletons, in order to answer questions about the past. They will use the information gained to identify differences between animals living in the past and now. 2

Date: Fri 2nd Dec Time: 2.00pm Location: Senior School Hall All parents are welcome to attend KS1 and Reception classes science questioning: Linton Zoo reptiles experience Date: Fri 9th Dec During this session the children will experience a number of reptiles from Linton Zoo up close. They will also have the opportunity to interview the reptile handlers and ask questions about the animals in their care. Carol Concerts Date: Mon 12th Dec Time: 2.00pm Location: Madingley Church Date: Weds 14th Dec Time: 2.00pm Location: City School Hall Parents from each school are invited to attend Rehearsals of the carol concert are in progress! 3

Robin Stevens Author Visit Date: Thurs 20th Oct Author of the well-loved Murder Most Unladylike Mysteries is coming to DB s with her new release for October, Mistletoe and Murder. Date: Fri 4th Nov Strictly Dame B s Dame B s PTA hosts Strictly Dame B s Date: Fri 14th Nov Bradbury House Charity Day Year 5 & 6 Primary Maths Challenge Date: Weds 16th November maths lessons The Primary Maths Challenge is fun and exciting. It is not just about maths knowledge, but the ability to think things through, be logical and find ways to solve problens. Year 6 Science Event Date: Fri 18th Nov Time: 9.00am 3.00pm Location: Senior School A chance for our Year 6 to head over to the senior school and use the well equipped science labs. We will also be linking our learning to the ongoing building project. 5

What s happening at Dame Bradbury s? Early Years Nativity performances Shine Star, Shine! Date: Weds 7th and Thurs 8th Dec Time: 9.10 10.00am All Kindergarten and Reception children are involved in our nativity performances which retell a story based on the true meaning of Christmas. Tickets will be available. School Disco Years 4-6 Date: Tues 13th Dec Don your sequins and head to the theatre for an evening of disco frenzy. Dancing competition, fancy dress and plenty of poor teacher dancing! Festive Early Years Activity Day Date: Weds 14th Dec Come to school feeling festive and wearing a festive jumper! Christmas Lunch Date: Weds 14th Dec Time: 11.30am 1.00pm Year 6 parents are invited to join us for Christmas lunch. PTA host... Santa s Grotto, carol singing and mince pies Date: Weds 14th Dec Time: 2.30pm 5.00pm Parents are invited to come and join us for carol singing and mince pies and take their children to visit Santa in his grotto! 6

What s happening at our Junior School? Performers Platform concert Date: Tues 18th Oct Time: 5.00pm 5.45pm Loation: Junior School Hall Members of Years 5 & 6 will entertain family members and friends with solo performances on a great variety of instruments. This is a fantastic opportunity to see some of our amazing musicians in action! Parents and friends welcome to attend Social responsibility opportunities Date: Thurs 20th Oct Location: Senior School Date: Fri 21st Oct Location: Junior School Junior School and Pre-prep pupils are invited to bring in basic food items, in celebration of Harvest Festival, which will then be passed on to Jimmy s, an organisation which has provided help for homeless people in Cambridge for over 20 years. Pupils in Years 5 & 6 will also have a chance to support Barnardo s by attending the bi-annual fair at the Senior School on 20th October. Author visit Date: Thurs 20th Oct Time: Morning Location: Junior School Robin Stevens, well-loved author of The Murder Most Unladylike series, will be talking to Y4-Y6 pupils about her most recent novel, Mistletoe and Murder. This title and other books by Robin will be available to purchase via Mrs Rogers, 3-11 Librarian, and these can be signed on the day. 7

What s happening at our Junior School? Parents Consulation with Teachers Date: Tues 1st Nov and 7th Nov Date: Thurs 10th Nov and 15th Nov Date: Weds 16th Nov and 21st Nov Year 3 and 4 Year 5 Year 6 Junior School teaching staff look forward to meeting with parents at the autumn term parents consultations when they will provide detailed feedback on pupil progress. This year we have an exciting theme planned so do make a note of the date when your child/ren will be involved! What s happening at our Senior School? Year 7, 8, 9 Reading Week Date: Mon 17th Fri 21st Oct The week of the 17th October is Reading Week at the Senior School. This means that no homework will be set (cheers all around!), and it is an opportunity for all students to read for pleasure. Do encourage your daughters to pick up a book, any book, and spend time reading. Barnardo s Charity Afternoon Date: Thurs 20th Oct Since 1946, the school has raised money for Barnardo s, most notably through our biennial sale. This year s sale is on Thursday 20th October and you are all warmly invited to attend this event. The school is utterly transformed in a riot of colour, costumes and creativity. Through the generosity of students, staff and parents we hope to continue our long-standing support of this worthwhile charity. Year 11 Berlin Trip Date: Fri 21st - Sun 23rd Oct On Friday 21st October a number of Year 11 history students will be visiting Berlin. This three-day trip will focus on understanding the Weimar, Nazi and Cold War eras in Germany s history. There is a packed programme of visits to historical and cultural sights, led by an experienced tour guide. Students will visit sites such as the Brandenburg Gate, the remnants of the Berlin Wall, and some of the major memorials across the city. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to travel to Sachsenhausen, the Wannsee Conference House and the Olympic stadium by coach. The aim of this exciting trip is to enhance student s learning by allowing them to see for themselves the context in which the momentous events of the twentieth century took place. 9

What s happening at our Senior School? Y11 Florence Trip Date: Fri 21st 25th Oct Year 11 students studying Italian and/or art will be visiting Florence for five days during half term. Students will be staying in central Florence, giving them the opportunity to immerse themselves in the vibrant social and cultural life of the Italians. Their experience will be filled with visits to many historical and cultural landmarks of the Tuscan region, including many museums, churches and the city of Siena during a one-day excursion. The students of Italian will also be able to attend a three-day Italian course in a language school in Florence for a total of nine hours of lessons. The students of art will concentrate on the artistic opportunities the city has to offer, such as the Uffizi Gallery, Accademia Gallery, where the Michelangelo s David is located, Modern Art exhibitions including the Gucci gallery, the impressive Santa Croce Basilica in Florence and Siena Cathedral. Culturally the students will share the majority of their experiences as activitis are shared between both groups. November Autumn Concert Date: Weds 9th Nov Location: Senior School Hall The Autumn Concert is the first large-scale concert of the school year and will feature performances by the Big Band, Concert Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra, Year 7 Choir, Middle School Choir, Jazz singers and singers. If your son or daughter is a member of one of these groups they will receive a letter with full details of the arrangements for the concert. Everybody is welcome to attend the concert, and complimentary tickets will be available from reception. Please collect these in good time as we cannot exceed the capacity of the hall. 10

What s happening at our Sixth Form? Absolutely Fabulous Cabaret! Date: Mon 14th Oct Time: 7.30pm Location: The Old Library A glittering evening of live music and entertainment performed and organised by Sixth Form students, with special guest performances by students in Years 10 and 11. For one night only, the college will be transformed into a fabulous cabaret venue to showcase some of our finest talent. All proceeds from the event will go to the charity Amatani. Eira, former Talent Development Coach for GB Rowing, knows about how much commitment sport can take and how overwhelming the ups and downs can be for athletes and their parents. Come along and get some advice. Tickets cost 25 from highperformanceparenting.co.uk. Please not this is not an SPF event. Year 8 Parents Coffee Morning Date: 4th November Time: 9.00am Location: Carluccio s, Grand Arcade, Cambridge Year 8 parents and carers are invited to celebrate autumn with a coffee and a chat at Carluccio s.
