5 INFORMATION ON THE FUNCTION OF THE QUALIFICATION Graduates in Social Administration and Policy aquire general skills and knowledge, while they have developed capacities in order to fullfil a wide spectrum of professional and academic perspectives. They are in a position to staff organizations with actions in the analysis and study of social problems, as well as promotion and solution of such problems. More specifically graduates in Social Administration and Policy demostrate: Following the successful completion of their studies, the Department s graduates in Social Policy demonstrate skills to: Capacity of critical analysis and interpretation of contemporary social problems and policies of welfare Capacity of comprehension of key theoretical approaches for social policy and distinguish differences Perception of the interdisciplinary nature of social policy Familiarity to basic methods of economic analysis to explore issues related to broader role of social policy Strong ability to understand and use fundamentals of social administration Strong ability of impact assessment of policy proposals in the field of social protection Strong ability to propose alternative solutions to social problems and promote social development Familiarity to a range of research methods and formulate evidence based policy proposals Graduates in Social Policy Pathway demonstrate knowledge of: Development of social policy in Greece and Europe and the social, economic and political context in which have operated Organizations, institutions and normative framework of social policy planning and implementation Financing of social protection mechanisms Economic effects of social policies Significance of alternative approaches in mapping and interpretation of social phenomena and social protection policies Role and significance of NGOs in social policy Significance and contribution of international organizations and Institutions, including EU, in social protection on national and international level Main features of social policies in other European countries Development of social policy as part of pubic policies Usage of social policy tools
