Chairman s Message I would like to welcome you to our new Radiology Residency Newsletter. Many thanks to Dr. Vibhor Wadhwa for the concept and the work to make it happen. You will see here that the Radiology Residency Program at UAMS is an active and vibrant place, with nearly 50 residents and fellows in 5 ACGME-accredited programs (including 8 in our categorical internship this year). Our traineeshail from many countriesand locales in the United States as well as from Arkansas. They are a diverse, energetic, and amazingly talented group. Our residents secure prestigious fellowships every year (including our own), and we are delighted that some choose toreturn (or stay) and join us on the faculty nearly every year. We also noted with pride that all of our third-year residents passed theabr Core Examon thefirst trythis year. Our faculty is also nearly 50 strong, with accomplished clinicians and dedicated educators in seven divisions and sections. Among our number are acknowledged leaders in each of our respective fields and in organized radiology. UAMS and the University of Arkansas system maintain a classic promotion and tenure system for the faculty, which is specifically designed to support and reward excellence in teaching as well as research. In my 3 years of supporting their applications, all 11 of the faculty who applied were awarded promotion. This is a result of their significant accomplishments in UAMS s 3 missions of education, patient care, and research. Physicians and medical students have been learning radiology in the College of Medicine for more than a century. Our residents are heirs to this long tradition of excellence and will be well prepared to lead imaging into what promises to be a bright future. Thank you for reading about us. James E McDonald, MD UAMS Radiology Residency Newsletter Fall 2017 Page 2

From the Program Directors Desk It gives me immense pleasure to introduce the new Radiology Residency Newsletter. This newsletter will be completely edited and handled by our residents, with the program directors serving as advisors. I encourage all faculty members and alumni to support this initiative and contribute columns to the newsletter. In our effort to go green, this newsletter will be published online only on our website. As Dr. McDonald mentions, we have an diverse group of extremely talented individuals, both residents and faculty, who work together providing the best care for our patients. Teaching the younger generation while at the same time learning from them makes staying in academics worthwhile. Lastly, I would personally like to thank all the residents for all their hard work.
