The charge of student card is 17 PLN. After arrival you should pay 17 PLN in our cash desk: Univeristy of Gdansk (Main Office) Bazynskiego 1a (street), GDANSK Open hours: Monday- Friday 9.00-14.00 After payment, you will receive a confirmation from cash desk, which you should bring to the Students Office, room 121 at the Faculty. There, you will receive your student card and your examination form (few days after payment). 8
After the end of semester, you should bring your examination form and student card (if the end of semester is also the end of your stay) back to room 121. Based on the examination form, Students Office is making The Transcript of Records for sending institution. Student should bring the examination form and student card to the Office one week before leaving to their country. LIBRARIES: Main Library: The Library of the University of Gdańsk was founded in 1970 at the same time when the University of Gdańsk was established. The Library consists of the Main Library in Gdańsk-Oliwa, seven specialist libraries and the British Library. Apart from being an academic library it also serves as an educational, information and cultural centre for the whole region. The collection has an universal character. However, consideration is given to the disciplines represented at the University and maritime issues. 10

Last one, no. 9 is located near the beach. About the city Photo: Sopot city Sopot is a beautiful small seaside city and spa resort. The enchanting scenery of our town, with the natural beauty of its landscape and attractive tourist facilities, as well 15
as many cultural entertainment events, make Sopot as tourists destination visited all year by over two million tourists. There are sandy beaches stretch along the whole 4,5 km of the city coast with water and beach equipment rental facilities and many pubs and cafes. Sopot has also the longest wooden pier in Europe (511,5m) which is real attraction for people from all around the world. Bohaterów Monte Cassino Street, which is the street leading down to the pier, is the most famous pedestrian precinct in the country is lined with numerous pubs, restaurants and galleries. During the summer it becomes a venue itinerant street theatres, musicians and artists who exibit their works. There is also big cinema and theatre on this lively street. The town is located between two big cities: Gdańsk and Gdynia and that is the Tri-City conurbation. Photo: Sopot city In Poland you can use your credit cards: Visa, American Express, Eurocard, Eurocheque are accepted in most hotels and banks in all large cities. Shopping: In the city you will find many shops where you can get almost everything you need. There are several big Shopping Centres also. There is student s cafeteria in the Faculty building. 16
4.4. Communication: The public transport in 3city (Gdansk, Sopot and Gdynia)- includes 10 tramlines and 84 bus lines- Gdansk, and 110 bus lines in Gdynia. Some of them are connecting Sopot with Gdansk and Gdynia. The tickets are for single use: one ticket for one ride. In all the three cities the time of punching in buses and trams is printed on the ticket, after punched in the bus. Students are given 50% discount on ticket fares (after showing their student cards during control). You can buy a ticket from driver of the bus/tram. The three cities are interconnected by a local train called SKM (Szybka Kolej Miejska- The Fast City Train). The journey between the main stations of Gdansk and Gdynia lasts about 35 minutes. In rush hours the train leaves every 10 minutes, at other times every 30 minutes, with break between 1 and 4 a.m. There is a distancelimit system of fares on SKM, so while buying ticket you should say where you want to get to. The ticket must be punched at railway station, before ascending the train. Student s are given 37% discount on ticket fares. You can buy a tickets in ticket office next to station or in the ticket machine in the platform station (this one are automatically punched). There are also a large system of taxi transportation. 4.5. Health Insurances: EU Students should ensure to bring the Health Insurance issued at their home country (valid for the whole period of student s staying at UG). To get more information you can visit the web page of the Polish National Health http://www.nfz.gov.pl/ue/?katnr=5&dzialnr=2&artnr=716&czartnr=2 Non-EU students are required to have commercial Health Insurance (valid for the whole period of student s staying at UG) which covers medical costs and consequences of any accidents.
