SELECTION PROCESS FOR MEMBERSHIP Atlee High School Hanover High School Lee-Davis High School Dear, Congratulations! Your outstanding scholastic achievement makes you eligible for membership in the National Honor Society based on a minimum 3.5 scholarship requirement. Membership is based not only on scholarship, but also on service, leadership, and character. To determine your degree of involvement in co-curricular and community activities, service, leadership positions and work experiences, we ask that you thoroughly complete the attached activity form. This form, along with two character references, must be returned to the faculty sponsor of NHS by the deadline announced in your high school in order for you to be considered for membership. If you should need assistance in filling out your form or would like it proofread before submitting it, please contact the faculty sponsor. The selection process consists of four steps. First, the activity forms are reviewed by the five-member faculty council to determine the degree of involvement for each candidate. To ensure anonymity applicants names will not be on the activity forms. Second, administration and faculty will be asked to report any concerns involving character of the candidates. Third, the faculty council will vote on each candidate. A two-thirds majority vote is needed. Finally, results of the faculty council are reviewed and approved by the principal. Once candidates are selected to become members, they will be officially inducted into the NHS. Participation in an induction ceremony is a requirement for membership. Candidates will be notified of the council s decision by letter after the selection process is complete. ****************************************************************************** I understand that completing this form does not guarantee selection to NHS.
