Students will be able t describe the different majr systems, including the nervus, circulatry, digestive, respiratry, renal, endcrine, immune and reprductive systems. Students will be able t explain the integratin f nrmal structure and functin, and the rle f regulatry and feedback cntrl systems in maintaining bdy functins within effective peratinal limits. On cmpletin f this curse, students shuld be able t: 1. Curse Presentatin Advanced Anatmy and Physilgy is ffered in the Flexible mde nly in Term 3 2010. The presentatin fr all students includes: Study guide. Students must have access t the recmmended text. Student use f the curse Mdle site is essential fr access t practicals and tutrials and this will be the primary mde f cmmunicatin beynd face t face cntact. Regular access t email is essential. Vide-streamed lectures. A cmpulsry tw day Residential Schl, during which tutrials will be cnducted. Hme based activities including tutrials, practical exercises and quizzes. Residential Schls Students must attend a tw day residential schl at ne f the fllwing lcatins: Brisbane (January 15-16, 2011) Mackay (January 29-30, 2011) T accmmdate student travel, the first day f each residential schl will run frm 11am t 5pm and the secnd day f each will run frm 9am t 3pm. ACCOMMODATION Please bk early t ensure apprpriate accmmdatin is available. Assessment item 1 Practical wrk Due date: Part A: December 12, 2010 Weighting: 20% Part B: January 25, 2011 ASSESSMENT 1 Objectives This assessment item relates t the curse learning utcmes 1-4. Details Students will cmplete tw hme activities (10% each). Part A: Senses Practical (10%) The instructins and questins fr the Senses Practical are available as a pdf dcument n Mdle. Dwnlad this dcument and carefully fllw the instructins. Yu will need t wrk with friends r family members. Cmplete the practical tests after studying Mdule 4 (Week 4, Nvember 22, 2010). Yu will then be required t write tw shrt reprts (apprx 500 wrds each) abut the nrmal functining f the eye and the ear and the results f yur investigatins. Questins are given in each sectin t guide yur discussin. Please remember that Turnitin will identify any cpying frm the Internet r ther students. It will als identify cpying frm the textbk r study guide. D nt be tempted t plagiarise. Yur reprts must be submitted n Mdle by midnight, Sunday December 12, 2010 (end f Exam week). Part B: Acidsis and Alkalsis (10%) A tutrial n acidsis and alkalsis is available as a pdf dcument n the Mdle site. Wrk thrugh this material carefully. A shrt answer quiz will then be available n the Mdle site fr 24hr nly 5pm Friday 24 January t 5pm Saturday 25 January, 2011. Yu will have 30 minutes t cmplete the quiz and nly ne attempt. Assessment item 2 Tutrials Due date: February 4, 2011 ASSESSMENT Weighting: 20% Objectives This assessment item relates t the curse learning utcmes 1-4. Details Students will cmplete weekly n-line revisin quizzes fr each Tpic (12 in ttal). Each quiz will be cmprised f five multiple chice questins, based n material in lectures, the study guide and the textbk. Yu will have 8 minutes t cmplete the quiz and may have a secnd attempt if yu are nt happy with yur result frm the first. Nte that althugh the timer n the Mdle site has been set t 9 minutes t allw time fr uplading, yu shuld cmplete the quiz within 8 minutes. Each quiz will pen n Mnday at beginning f the relevant week. Assessment item 3 Examinatin Due date: Weighting: 60% During the frmal examinatin perid (7-11 February, 2011) ASSESSMENT 3 Objectives This assessment item relates t the curse learning utcmes 1 4. Details The examinatin will be cmprised f tw parts. Part A Multiple Chice questins (40 marks, 60 minutes) This sectin will be cmprised f 40 multiple chice questins (40 marks, 60 minutes). Tpics 3, 4, 10 and 12 will be emphasised in this part f the exam paper. The multiple chice questins will examine all mdules f the curse. The answers t Part A will be submitted n an Optical Mark Reader Card. Part B Lng answer questins (80 marks, 120 minutes) This sectin will be cmprised f eight lng answer questins. Students will be required t answer nly fur f eight questins (20 marks each; 80 marks ttal). Each questin is based n the learning utcmes in the Study Guide. There will be ne questin fr each f the fllwing mdules: 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 11. Each questin will examine the material fr ne Mdule in detail and may be made up f a number f smaller questins. Students shuld spend apprximately 30 minutes writing the answer t each f their fur chsen questins (120 minutes ttal).
