For the first time, Do You Basel campaign will shake up ART BASEL MIAMI December 4 9, 2012 "This environment allows the billionaire to come in, in a pair of shorts and flip flops and drop 10 million dollars on a painting he's never seen before and feel completely comfortable about doing it -- now THAT'S what Art Basel Miami did -- that never existed before..." (from Morley Safer Interview -- 60 Minutes) WE WANT TO GET THE ARTS COMMUNTY BASELING Featuring: Najee Dorsey Founder of Black Art In America And Special Guests MIAMI, FL November 19, 2012 Black Art in America (BAIA), nonradiomusic Studio-Lab Projects (NRM Studio-Lab Projects) and Harlem Brewing Company (HBC) are combining efforts to promote Art Basel Miami as an arts destination for the African-American arts community. Join us for these premiere events December 4 9, 2012. For the first time, the Black Art In America Do You Basel? campaign takes the lead in promoting venues for art enthusiasts to bask in the brilliance of African-American art during the week of Art Basel. In other words, these gatherings are designed to get the arts community 'Baseling.' Having a visible presence in Miami during Art Basel week affords the international arts market a unique way to become familiar with the multitude of artists and depth of thought in the black arts community. Why is this important? We are six years into the 10 year trajectory path predicted by the Bloomberg Businessweek Magazine Report (2006). Astute collectors are trying to familiarize themselves with this burgeoning segment of the arts market.
2 Bloomberg Businessweek Magazine "Black Art Is Buried Treasure" Posted on February 12, 2006, Predicts Atlanta art dealer Jerry Thomas Jr.: "In the next 10 years we are going to see a very significant appreciation in the price of African-American work". ON THE PROWL Forbes Magazine Collectors Guide Why African-American Art Is So Hot (2008) mentions that, "Now white collectors and institutions are discovering these long overlooked works". The enthusiasm that Art Basel Miami brings to the arts community reinvigorates our passion for the arts and the value of why it s so important to patronize African-American artists, both now and in the future, said Najee Dorsey, BAIA Founder and CEO. As fellow artists, we feel compelled to do what we can to promote African-American art not to mention, have fun while Baseling. What is Baseling'? Baseling is the experience you have when you participate in the four-day festivities featuring art exhibits and special events in Miami. You will feel the presence of African-American artists, added Dorsey. "It will give the arts community a chance to join BAIA, NRM Studio-Lab Projects, and Harlem Brewing Company and rethink how and where to Basel. Share the excitement and fun with your friends, family or fellow art lovers. And remember, your attendance has Baseling benefits!"
