Board of Education Yadkin County Schools Yadkinville, NC A regular meeting of the Yadkin County Board of Education was held on Monday, February 2, 2015 at 9:00a.m. at Courtney Elementary School. The Board reviewed Contracts/Purchases. 6. The Board reviewed budget priorities. Dr. Martin informed the Board they would look at trying to maintain the Driver s Education Program as much as possible. He also stated to the Board that if something comes up they would like to see on the budget to please give him a call and he would take a look at it. 7. The Board discussed the next joint commissioners meeting which is scheduled for March 30, 2015. Yadkin County Board of Education would be the host for this meeting. 8. The Board reviewed the February Schedule of Activities.

Comments Dr. Martin thanked Mr. Cockrell and his staff for hosting the Board meeting today. He also thanked the student representatives for being here and informed the Board that Adelajda had a college class she needed to attend. He also thanked the Board members for their leadership and that he knows they receive calls and have to serve as a sounding board. In addition, he stated it was great to have Rex back. Lauren Hobson stated the Forbush High School wrestling team had their conference championships and that two wrestlers won conference champions. She stated the girls basketball team is doing really well. She also informed the Board that all the clubs at Forbush are raising money for one of their lunch ladies who has been diagnosed with cancer. Josh Houser stated that the boys basketball team is doing really well and that they had recently beat Forbush. He stated some of the wrestlers had qualified for the state. He also stated that the students loved the new 3D printer and that things were going well at Starmount High School. Joe Dezern stated it was always a pleasure to visit Courtney Elementary School and that he appreciated the hospitality. He stated it was good to have Rex back today and that the Board had missed him and hoped that he continues his recovery. He also stated he was glad that the storms and cold weather were staying to the north of us to help make the calendar less difficult. Sam Crews stated he echoed Joe Dezern s comments. He thanked Mr. Cockrell and his staff for the breakfast and thanked those who were in attendance. He also stated that he had started praying for Rex when he heard that he was in the hospital and it was wonderful to see him back and thanked him for what he has done for our county for all these years. He told Rex to continue getting stronger Jennifer Hemric thanked Mr. Cockrell and Courtney Elementary School for their hospitality. She also stated it was good to have Rex back at the meetings and that it was not the same without him. Rex Baity thanked Courtney Elementary for hosting the meeting. He also thanked everyone for their thoughts and prayers since December 15. He stated he hated missin his second meeting ever in January and that he was glad to be back. Tim Weatherman thanked Courtney Elementary School for hosting the Board meeting. He also welcomed Rex back and stated that he has been a big help to him as a new member of the Board. And that he missed him at the last meeting. He congratulated Lauren on the wrestling team at Forbush and stated that Josh did have to wear a red jersey when he visited Winston Salem State University. Lynn Allred thanked Mr. Cockrell for hosting the meeting and that he felt it has been a great year at Courtney and he wished him the best as a new principal there. He also stated it was fpr the whole Board to be back together. He also thanked all the Board members and how the Board operated and treated each other with respect. He stated it was great to work with a group that you didn t mind sharing your opinions with and that it was a privilege to serve on the Board.

Howard McKnight thanked Courtney Elementary School for hosting the meeting and for everything they did to get ready for the meeting. He stated it was good to see Rex back and that it was a good surprise to see him at the meeting. He reminded the Board that the next meeting was scheduled for March 2 at East Bend Elementary School with closed session beginning at 9:00a.m. and followed immediately by open session.
