Kym s Comment A VIEW TO THE FUTURE Dear families & friends Start of term.. It has been a great start to the term with grades settling well. It was fantastic to see everyone enjoying the first session of Footsteps on Tuesday morning. It s a boy!!!! Congratulations to Taryn and Cameron Smith on the safe arrival of their baby boy. Mother and baby are very well. As yet no news of the name This term we welcome Pam Kokovski to the teaching team. She will be at Gembrook Primary School on Mondays, providing literacy assistance to some students in the Junior Learning Centre and the Middle Learning Centre. Pam will also work with a small group of writers from the Middle Learning Centre. This literacy support program is in addition to the grade 1 literacy support program and the Quicksmart Literacy and Quicksmart Numeracy programs. If you have any queries about these programs please do not hesitate to contact the classroom teacher or myself. Term activities.. This term promises to be another exciting term for all at Gembrook. There will be many extra curricula activities including: the Footsteps dance program and concert, the Girl s Footy Day, basketball competitions, China sister school visit, Special Friends Day, GEMBOOK Week and Produce Markets. Please check the calendar and the notices sent home part of the weekly newsletter. Next week Lynne Huberts begins some leave. During her absence a music program will be substituted for the art program. Alena Schnieder, who facilitated the Jellybeans program last term, will be filling in for Lynne. We wish Lynne an enjoyable holiday. 3 Way conferences Next week we will have 3 way conferences. This will be an opportunity for students, teachers and parents to get together to discuss student learning progress. It will also be an opportunity to get to know new staff for this term Ann Liston in 5/6A and Donavan Bailey in P/1. We have used a new system this semester for interviews-a note was sent home yesterday. Parents are required to log on to the internet and select a time. The website is: www.schoolinterviews.com.au Please contact the school office for assistance if you are unable to access this site. Sister School Visit On Monday 29 July 2013 we will welcome a delegation of seven students and a chaperone teacher from Kunshan Peiben Experimental School in the Suzhou Province of China. The three boys and two girls will be staying in home stay placements. Thank you to the following families for offering their homes for our visitors: Goodie, Thomas, Jarrett, Candy and Fisher. Thanks to Tabitha O Brien for the home stay arrangements for the chaperone teacher from China. The stay is for five school days and one weekend. Predominantly time will be spent in the school at the request of the Chinese government. However, on Wednesday 31 July there will be an excursion to Healesville Sanctuary. On Friday morning, 2 August, the Chinese delegation will visit the zoo to meet the Minister for Education, Martin Dixon. During the September school holidays Tabitha O Brien and Tim Dewar will visit our sister school in China. This relationship between the two schools is one part of our Asian Literacy program. This term all grades are studying an Asian country as part of their inquiry learning. Asian literacy is part of the new national curriculum introduced in to all Australian schools in 2013. Congratulations Annabelle Annabelle has been elected the Student Representative Council member for 3/4E. Run Gembrook -Fun Run November 10 Sunday 10 November is the date for the Run Gembrook fun run.
