The Caddie Tribune Dear Alumni, I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable summer! Everything here in Columbus has been busy and very exciting the past semester. In the second issue of The Caddie Tribune we will show you everything that has gone on in the OSU Evans Scholars chapter last semester! Hope you enjoy reading this! Nick Jenkins Alumni Relations Chair A Word from the President Hi my name is Stefan Schuetz and I am the president of the Ohio State Evans Scholars. I just want to give a little update on what we are doing here at Ohio State. This past semester we went to West Virginia on a rafting trip as a chapter bonding activity. It definitely puts you out of your comfort zone which I think helps people open up and really get to know one another. As it says in our creed to embrace individual differences. We definitely have accomplished that because I have not seen our chapter this close for as long as I have been a Scholar. If you walk through this House you can see the bond that everyone has and will have for the rest of their lives. This past semester we worked hard to improve our cumulative GPA. In the spring of 2015 we had a 3.35 GPA and improved on that even more in the fall of 2015 with a 3.44 GPA. Education is what we are here for so it great to see everyone working hard to improve and hopefully we can do so again in the spring of 2016. Our chapter participated in various intramurals throughout the fall semester including softball, flag football, soccer and volleyball. We did not win any championships, but boy did we leave it all out on the field. My term as president has proved to be an eyeopening experience. From everyone looking to me for advice and direction, to people giving me the opposite opinion. I have learned so much about myself as well as others in the chapter that makes me happy to have run for Executive Board. I hope that I can pass along everything I have learned to the future Executive Board. When I came to Ohio State as a freshman, I never knew what my college experience was going to look like as an Evans Scholar at one of the biggest universities in the country. The only thing I can say now as a senior is that I am proud to be an Evans Scholar; it is an experience I will remember forever. GO BUCKS! Stefan Schuetz Class of 2016

New Scholar Program 2015! Hi my name is Jessica White and I am the current New Scholar Educator for Ohio State. This past semester has been an eventful one filled with class bonding for all of the freshmen. All 17 of our New Scholars began the semester with a high ropes course to begin to learn how to work together. They all proved they could work together and continued to show that throughout the semester. They all came together as a class and made some lasting friendships. We had two other big events during the semester that helped to further their bonds. We went white water rafting in West Virginia and having everyone come outside of his or her comfort zones promoted teamwork. Another event was New Scholar retreat. This retreat is designed around team bonding exercises for the New Scholar Class; this event helped the class to bond on a deeper emotional level and I feel that this event helped to solidify some friendships. We had many New Scholars get involved withactivitiesoutside of the chapter. Nick Jarrell is a member of the Ohio State cross country team, Nate Dusseau is a member of the Ohio State marching band, Sam Good is a member Air Force ROTC, Sean Lorton recently became involved in the Navy ROTC, and Sean McMullen is a member of the athletic band. This year was a very successful year for the New Scholar program. All 17 New Scholars completed the New Scholar program and they all achieved over a 2.5 GPA, meaning that for the first time in a very long time we had 100 percent activation of the New Scholar class. As a class they had a cumulative GPA that was just slightly higher than that of the entirechapter. I am very proud of everything the New Scholars have accomplished as a class and I cannot wait to see what positive impact each one of them will have on the chapter. They have all embraced what it means to be an Evans Scholar and will continue to do so in the future. Congrats to the New Scholar Class of 2015-2016! Jessica White Class of 2017

Making the Scholarship House More Environmentally Friendly Hello, my name is Tyler Martini and I am the cofounder of the recycling program that was recently started within our chapter. About a year ago my roommate Tyler Hauck and I thought that it was important to start recycling at our Scholarship House, as about 70 people go through a lot of paper, aluminum and cardboard. Luckily for us, the House still had recycling bins from when they used to recycle before the program was retired. We took it upon ourselves to place these bins, along with others, in various convenient places around the House for everyone to put their recyclables. A couple of times each week we collect all of the recyclables from all of the bins and take them to a nearby receptacle that gets emptied each week. The program was successful almost instantly, with everyone willing to change their daily habits and think about what they were throwing away and recycle it instead. After a couple of months of running this program we thought that it is important for the program to continue long after we have graduated. The only way to really guarantee its longevity is to include it into the Chapter Constitution as an elected chair position. After talking to the Executive Board and a vote from the chapter our program became integrated into the Constitution and is now an elected position for any person who is interested. We hope that the program is as successful in the future as it is now, and that future Scholars will be willing to participate to make the world and our Scholarship House a better place. Tyler Martini Class of 2017 I hope everyone enjoyed this newsletter and hope it has kept everyone informed of what we have been up to this past semester. As we move into a new semester we hope everyone will look forward to the next newsletter that will be sent out in the spring. If you have any suggestions as to how make the newsletter better feel free to contact me! Thanks again for reading and Go Bucks!
