Physical Education Newsletter Spring Semester 2017 Physical Education Majors in Action The WSU Physical Education Program had a booth at the WSU Health Fair put on by Campus Recreation. Physical Education majors ran the booth.

PE majors had the opportunity to work with WSU alumnus and 2008 National Elementary PE Teacher of the Year, Kathy Wagner. Kathy was teaching them a dance routine using scarves. The Elementary PE Methods class made balloon sculptures to show creative ways to teach throwing skills.

Physical Education majors helped Wichita Collegiate School with their Jump Rope for Heart event. WSU Physical Education majors helped Spaght Science and Communications Magnet School with their Body Venture event.

Minneha Core Knowledge Magnet Field Day As part of their field experience, the Elementary PE Methods class helped Minneha Core Knowledge Magnet School with their Field Day. WSU PE majors helped Minneha PE teacher, Terryl White, demonstrate how to play Striker Ball to the fourth graders as part of their Field Day event. Emily Hiebert supervised the Fling It event at Minneha s Field Day.

Bowling and Billiards Night Team K-12 had an end of the year party and enjoyed free bowling, billiards, hors d oeuvres and soda.

Kansas Kids Fitness Day WSU Physical Education Majors helped USD 259 with their Kansas Kids Fitness Day. There were nearly 3,000 3rd graders in attendance, and the event was held at Northwest High School.

Student Hall of Fame Recognition Ashley Foss received a National Physical Education Major of the Year award from SHAPE America at the national convention in Boston. Packy Hanrahan finished his third consecutive year on the Mens Varsity Bowling Team with a 3rd place team finish at the national tournament in Louisiana. Earlier this spring, Packy bowled 3 consecutive perfect games of 300. Dean s Honor Roll Abby Stevens placed fourth in the women s half marathon in the Prairie Fire competition. Abby s time was 1:35:58. The following physical education majors made the Dean s Honor Roll during the fall semester.
