Visa EU passport: No visa required. Non-EU passport: Follow exactly the guidelines of the German Embassy. You ll get a national visa, valid for Germany. A financial statement of ca. 8000 is required. Sperrkonto by DEUTSCHE BANK or SUTOR BANK www.fintiba.com (must be >18 yrs old). Start the visa process at least 6 months before the planned arrival in Germany!

Application Offices Online-Portal for students with diplomas other than the Abitur. (Similar to UCAS for the UK). Assesses foreign diplomas and collects documents. Vorprüfungsdokumentation (VPD). In many cases students must apply through Uni- Assist, even if they are German passport holders. Not all German universities are member. Students with IB-diplomas are often EXEMPTED.
Application Offices ZEUGNISANERKENNUNGSSTELLE Validates IB-Diplomas and calculates the Abiturnote. Every Federal State has one. Some universities require such validation prior to the application. In some cases only for German passports. The deadlines for the application for the validation is often in May (before IB-grades are out!). Problem: Different Federal States do usually not honor the validation of other Federal States.
Application Offices IBO IBO can be requested to make the OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT OF GRADES visible online for selected universities and offices on July 5. In this case there is no need to send or email a screenshot of the grades to the institution. However this is still recommended! Most Zeugnisanerkennungsstellen are part of this system. Please see your IB-Coordinator for this in April.
Application process Application at German universities is NOT standardized. is like UCAS in the UK, but not all universities are member. Vorprüfungsdokumentation. Non-EU passport holders usually apply directly to the universities or to with their IB-Diploma. In some Federal States validation from the respective Zeugnisanerkennungsstelle is required first. German passport holders usually have to present their IB- Diploma (or the final grades) first to a Zeugnisanerkennungsstelle to have it validated.
Dates/Deadlines (Wintersemester) Publication of IB Grades: July 6 University application deadline: In most cases July 15 Send screenshot of grades on July 6. Uni-Assist: Start having your online-account in May. Send screenshot of grades on July 6. Zeugnisanerkennungsstelle: Contact them before end of April, send pre-documents. Send screenshot of grades on July 6. IBO Transcript of Grades see your IB-Coordinator before May (grades will be visible online to the institutions on July 5).
Example Application Process (TU München) Student has IB-Diploma w/ German requirements and German A HL (1) Online-Application at University? YES (deadline usually 15.7.) (2) Uni-Assist YES/NO? NO, exempted because of IB-Diploma (3) Sprachzeugnis YES/NO? NO, exempted because of Ger. A HL (4) Zeugnisanerkennungsstelle YES/NO? YES! Deadline for personal data, cv, grade 10 diploma etc: 31.3. Deadline for IB grades: NO, but screenshot on July 6 advisable. Will send validation to university before July 15. (5) IBO Transcript of Grades to University? NO (yes advisable) (6) IBO Transcript of Grades to Zeugnisanerk.-stelle? YES (7) IBO Transcript of Grades to Uni-Assist? NO for (5)-(7): see IB-Coordinator before May
