SERVICE PROJECTS February 28, 2014 - Auburn University College of Engineering E-Day - During the Spring 2014 semester, the Auburn University student chapter of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (AUITE) was able to continue its support of Engineering Day (E-Day), the annual open house for Auburn University s Samuel Ginn College of Engineering. Middle and high school students who are considering a career in engineering had a chance to learn about the Auburn campus, engineering programs, and the opportunities the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering offers. Students had a chance to chat with Auburn students and faculty, experience interactive exhibits, and visit classes and labs. They could also tour the Auburn campus, and learn about admissions, scholarships, financial aid, and residence life. The AUITE Student Chapter had the responsibility of introducing Auburn University while on Tiger Transit and answering questions asked by prospective students and their parents. September 15-19, 2014 The City of Auburn Travel with Care Program - During the Fall 2014 semester, the AU student chapter supported the City of Auburn s Travel with Care program, which focuses on traffic safety through the promotion of knowledge on a range of issues, especially pedestrian, bicycle, and motorcycle-related. The program provides public education by asking people to answer a questionnaire with questions about laws and legislations such as jaywalking, proper passing of transit and school buses, motorcycle regulations, pedestrian rights, and bicycle laws. After the completion of the quiz, gifts such as reflective t-shirts and bicycle lights were awarded. CONCLUSION The Auburn University Student Chapter participated in a wide array of activities through the year of 2014. These activities included ITE supported trips, service projects, and participation with both ALSITE and SDITE. Our nine student chapter meetings allowed students to see various presentations of where transportation expertise is being used both professionally and in academic research. The 2014 year continued the trend for the Student Chapter in both quality and quantity of work and we look forward to this trend continuing through 2015. The officers involved recognize the benefits of being student members of the Institute of Transportation Engineers. We will continue to relay these benefits to our members and share in the experiences that ITE enables.
