Subject:- Entrustment of Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) Scheme for the academic year 2017-2018. Sir, I am directed to inform that the Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) Scheme was notified by the Ministry of HRD in May, 2001 for implementation in the Central Engineering Institutes (other than IITs) to facilitate the Foreign Nationals (FNs) studying in any country (including India), wards of Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) and Non - Residents Indians (NRis) to pursue Technical Education in India. The Scheme is in operation from the academic year 2001-2002. The guidelines and procedure prescribed under the Scheme are as under:- (i) (ii) (iii) [MHRD\RAVI\D:\DASA\DASA 2:017- E11trustment Order docx] The admissions under DASA scheme are purely made in NITs and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (excluding IITs) on the basis of valid SAT Subject Test Scores. All foreign nationals studying in any country including India or Indian Nationals studying abroad who fulfill prescribed admission criteria shall be eligible. Prescribed admission criteria for Indian Nationals shall be at least five years of education, inclusive of 11th and 12th or equivalent (not beyond), in a foreign country during the last 8 Page 1 of 3

(iv) (v) (vi) years and must pass the qualifying examination from abroad [Letter No.F.21-2/2001-TS.I dated 14th May, 2001]. Number of seats reserved for this category of students in different Institutions shall be nearly 15'ro of the total number of seats offered for admission [Letter No.F.35-10/2013-TS.III dated 13th February, 2014]. This shall be available in different disciplines proportionately. These seats shall be supernumerary. For admissions under DASA Scheme, the Registration I Application Fee is US$ 300 and the Tuition Fee is US$ 8000 as per approval of the Council of NITSER [Letter F.No.36-3/2015-TS.III dated 16th February, 2015]. As per the present policy, nationals of SAARC countries (except India) are eligible for 50'ro tuition fee waiver provided they have passed the qualifying examination in SA ARC countries [Letter No.F.24-8/2010-TS.III dated 2"d December, 2010]. 2. The DASA Scheme was administered by the National Institute of Technology, Srinagar (Jammu & Kashmir) for the academic year 2016-2017 as per decision of the Council of NITSER. For the forthcoming academic year 2017-2018, it has been decided that the Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) Scheme shall be administered by Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) - Nagpur (Maharashtra). 3. The other terms and conditions, in operation, for implementation of the DASA Scheme will remain same as conveyed vide this Ministry's letter No.F.22-12/2007-TS.III dated 4th March, 2010 (copy enclosed). 4. As resolved by the Council of NITSER in its previous meetings, the selection of students for admissions in the NITs and other CFTis under DASA Scheme shall continue on the basis of SAT scores. The Scheme would be taken on self-sustenance basis and no extra funds would be provided from this Ministry in this regard. 5. The Directors of Institutes, which administered DASA Scheme previously, shall be responsible for any residual liability including Court Cases. if any. The Court Case, if any, arising out of the process of DASA - 2017 will come under the jurisdiction of High Court of Maharashtra. Consequent upon completion of process, the DASA - 2017 shall submit its report to the Counci I of NITSER. 6. This issues with the approval of the competent authority in the Ministry. (J\@/ ;'>{'_ //6/ Ed.CIL shall also be responsible for publicity, issue, receipt and processing of applications and allocation of students to different institutes I disciplines as per merit list of the students whose candidatures are found valid. In lieu of this service, Ed.CIL shall collect from the students an application-cum-processing fee of US$ 350 per student. f) Admission requirements like age and academic qualifications etc. shall be similar to the requirements for admission of Indian nationals studying in India. In addition the candidates must have secured a minimum GP A of 8 on a 1 0-point scale, if grades are awarded. In case marks are awarded, candidates must have secured at least 75 % aggregate in all subjects of the qualifying examination. Candidates must have also secured a minimum score of 1800 in SAT-II Tests (taken on or after March 1999 for 2001-02 admissions) in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics II-C. g) A tuition fee of US$ 6000 per annum shall be charged from students in this category. Foreign nationals from SAARC countries seeking admission through this channel shall be allowed 50% fee waiver provided they are studying in SAARC counti ies o11ly. In addition, there shall be hostel fee, messing charges and other miscellaneous fees that will vary from institute to institute. h) This scheme shall come into effect fro.m the academic session 2001-2002. 2. All applicants are tq.pay non-refundable registration fee of UIS$ 250 [US Dollars Two Hundred and Fifty only] and first semester Tuition Fee along with the application form. The payment has to be made either through SWIFT Transfer or E-payment. The charges for fee payment, if a ny, should be borne by the applicartt. Particip~ting Institutes are to give ~mplete information of hostel facilities available, Institute fees, curri~lum, provision for branch change after 1 year, and placement policy ~in the Institute websites to help the prospective applicants. On 'receipt of necessary inputs from N1TK - SUrathkat, the matter has been further examined in the Ministry and the broad roles I responsibilities for-conducting the aforesaid scheme ~th effect from / the academic session 2010-2011 onwards have been decided in the following manner:- I The overall responsibility of running the scheme wid be with the National Institute of Technology Karnataka-Surathkal for the years 2011-2012 and 2012-2013. The proposed scheme IMluld be taken on self-sustenance basis and no extra funds would be prg.'jided from this Unistry in this regard. The scheme would also suitably compensate the.institutes involved in llflqertaking this activity and hence, it 'Mruld not be a burden on any of the NITs.
