West Coventry Sixth Form Building Successful Futures

A VERY WARM WELCOME TO WEST COVENTRY SIXTH FORM West Coventry Sixth Form is an exciting place to be. We believe that being part of this thriving community with its diverse range of opportunities will help you to develop as a young adult and prepare you effectively for higher education, apprenticeships or employment. We know that having the right opportunities during your time with us really does make a difference and we are committed to providing you with a curriculum that meets your individual needs. Indeed, West Coventry Sixth Form provides a bespoke educational experience, designed to unlock both your academic and personal potential. Students succeed where they feel respected, listened to and supported. First and foremost we are here to develop confident, successful learners and we believe the structures we have in place enable this to happen. Quality teaching and learning are reinforced by a caring, supportive tutor system and enrichment opportunities, all of which will help you develop into a well-rounded young person equipped for life and the challenges that inevitably follow post-16 education. You are a unique individual with your own thoughts and aspirations. Whether you are a current Tile Hill Wood, Westwood or Woodlands student or are thinking of joining us from elsewhere, we hope this prospectus will provide you with a flavour of the wide range of opportunities that exist. Our students are taught with passion, learn with enthusiasm and are encouraged to become the very best they can be. We are delighted that you are considering joining our sixth form. We are very proud of what we have to offer and invite you to find out more. We look forward to being part of this exciting chapter in your life.

A LOVE FOR LEARNING West Coventry Sixth Form is a dynamic environment, offering a wide range of learning opportunities. Our curriculum is designed with the achievement of all of you in mind; our courses are tailored to each of your individual needs and ambitions and includes both academic and vocational pathways. There is a strong emphasis on active learning in the classroom, workshop and studio, and your teachers will consistently challenge you to think for yourself. The level of challenge will be carefully set for each of you, stretching you to fulfil your potential. With teaching shared across three sites we can provide a flexible timetable that will allow you to choose any combination that will meet your needs in terms of your academic interests, strengths and future career plans. Our unique partnership enables us to offer one of the most diverse ranges of courses in the city. A PASSION FOR PROGRESS Independent learning is vital for the success of every student in sixth form. At West Coventry Sixth Form, our expectation is that you will be fully engaged with your chosen subjects. A passion for the study of these subjects should drive you to explore them thoroughly, using a range of resources, including study centres at all three sites, to grasp the opportunities before you. There are also a wide range of opportunities available to embrace learning outside the classroom environment. Indeed, educational visits to support the post-16 curriculum take place to a variety of destinations including Japan, Poland, Spain, Holland and France. Progress is tracked carefully with your academic development monitored closely to make sure you are achieving your full potential.

The lessons are different Teachers there is more discussion in class and you really have to listen to everyone. We are encouraged to be far more independent in order to prepare us for life beyond West Coventry Sixth Form. are enthusiastic about their subject; it is clear the student/teacher relationships change. They want us to do well and go out of their way to encourage us to achieve our goals.

They nurture and support us in whatever we do. The staff here really take care of us. The Learning Managers and tutors are always available to see us throughout the day and after lessons, we can take any problems, personal or academic to them for support.

COMMITTED TO CARING All of you are allocated a tutor who is involved in supporting, guiding and encouraging every young person in their care. Tutors are all experienced sixth form teaching staff and they will mentor you on both an academic and pastoral level throughout your time with us. Careers Advisors offer information, advice and guidance and there exists a wide range of opportunities, including fact-finding visits and external speakers, to help you discover what is on offer in terms of university courses, apprenticeships and employment. Tutors also offer support and advice on university and employment applications and we work closely with our local universities to improve academic opportunities as well as benefiting from their expertise in advising students. The opportunity to discover, first-hand, more about careers that interest you is a hugely valuable one for all Sixth Form students, so we will do all we can to help each one of you gather the information you need to make an informed choice about your future.

BEYOND THE CLASSROOM We recognise that the journey to become successful adults is made not just in the classroom and we value the contribution our sixth form students make to school life; indeed we expect our sixth formers to be positive role models for younger students. To this end there are a diverse range of extra-curricular opportunities available to you as part of West Coventry Sixth Form including membership of various sports teams, charity fund raising and volunteering in the community. We also have a comprehensive enrichment programme. Whether by taking on the role of a Senior Sports Leader supporting younger students in developing their abilities, working as a senior member of the Student Leadership Team representing the views of students to school governors and senior staff, or collaborating with staff to support younger students in lessons, you will be encouraged to act as a positive role model and inspiration for the wider school. Every student is expected to participate in a significant enrichment activity each week. We also have a wide range of external opportunities that are advertised and supported by our partners from various universities. These include Realising Opportunities and the Summer School project with Warwick University, Tomorrows Teachers with Edge Hill and Pathways to Law with Sutton Trust. We have also had successful applicants join the KPMG School Leaver Programme as well as Project Trust. Every year there is a joint drama production between Tile Hill Wood and Woodlands with sixth formers taking leading roles in these year after year. You will be encouraged to participate in all of these opportunities, which provide invaluable experience, enhance employability and nurture life skills.

The chance to take part in the Lake Garda trip was a unique experience. Whilst there the entire group had a chance to experience a different culture whilst bonding with staff and fellow students. It was a truly unforgettable experience and the trip of a lifetime. Staff work hard to get the right balance between hard work and fun... I am leaving West Coventry Sixth Form sadly, but have so many happy and positive memories that will stay with me for life.

THE NEXT STEP At West Coventry Sixth Form we pride ourselves on supporting you to make the right choices about life beyond Post 16. Indeed, it is always fantastic to hear news of our past students and what they have gone on to accomplish. As a student with us you will receive one to one support and guidance to help you decide the route that you want to take. We will also provide you with the skills and tools to help you achieve the final destination that is right for you. We are justifiably proud of the achievements of our past students; many have gone on to achieve first class degrees at universities, gain prestigious apprenticeships with companies such as KPMG and work in high profile roles within the Fashion and Retail industry. Once you join West Coventry Sixth Form the world really is your oyster! My tutor was fantastically helpful and knowledgeable about the whole university application process and we worked together to submit a really impressive application that has given me a good chance to get into one of the top universities.
