PROGRAMME REGULATIONS Programme Schedule Graduate Diploma in Event Communication To be read in conjunction with the Graduate Diploma Generic Regulations. 1. Programme Schedule The Schedule applies to the Graduate Diploma in Event Communication (GDipEC),,120 Credits. 2. Programme Specific Admission 2.1 Specific Admission To be admitted to this programme, all applicants must meet the following requirement in addition to the requirements set out in the Graduate Diploma Generic Regulations: candidates seeking entry solely on the basis of industry experience will be required to demonstrate, in a written application, curriculum vitae and attestation from suitable referees, that they have substantial professional experience in event management or related activities and/or be able to demonstrate competencies equivalent to graduates on the above. 3. Selection Criteria When the number of applications for admission exceeds the number of places available, the following selection criteria will be applied: a. Demonstrate motivation to complete this programme; b. Demonstrate awareness of both the discipline of communication and of this degree; c. Show a personal commitment to succeed in this degree. These criteria are not ranked in any order. Applicants who meet the greatest number of listed criteria will be the preferred candidates. Gdiploma In Event Communication Page 1
4. Selection Process Initial selection will be made by written application; applicants may then be required to attend an interview, either by telephone or in person. 5. Requirements for the Award of the Qualification 5.1 Minimum credit requirements This table shows the number of compulsory and elective credits required in each year. Table 1 (a): Credit Accumulation - Compulsory Course Level Number of Credits 30 credits 45 credits Table 1 (b): Credit Accumulation - Elective Course Level Number of Credits 15 credits 30 credits 5.2 Graduate Diploma in Event Communication To be awarded the Graduate Diploma in Event Communication, a student must successfully complete 120 credits, accumulated in the pattern set out in Table 1 from the courses as set out in Table 2 AND Include at least 75 credits at AND Enrol for a minimum of 30 credits in any calendar year unless fewer than 30 credits are required to complete the programme. Assessment of Prior Learning Assessment of Prior Learning is available for all courses. 7. Assessment 7.1 Assessment basis a. All written assessment is achievement based using an 11 point grading scale (Table 3). b. Course grades shall be calculated by the mathematical aggregation of weighted summative assessment grades on the basis set out in the programme schedule of the graduate diploma. b. Students may be awarded one of the following grades for the course if they meet the criteria described. Grades will be reported according to the scale shown in Table 3. c. The final grade for a course shall be calculated from the aggregation of all summative assessments activities. d. Final grades for the courses which have practical assessments will be determined by the grade gained in the written components of the summative assessment following successful achievement of all practical assessment. e. The Programme Committee may award a grade of "Did Not Complete" (DNC) instead of a fail grade when, in the opinion of the committee, the student has failed to complete sufficient of the course to be regarded as an attending student. In order to achieve a passing grade for the course, all assessment items and sub items must be attempted and submitted. 7.3 Restricted passes Restricted Passes will not be awarded for courses in this degree 7.4 Submission / Late submission of assessments Applications for extensions must be made to the course coordinator on the appropriate form and at least one week prior to the submission date for the assessment item. An extension will only be granted if the criteria for Special Assessment Circumstances (SAC) have been met and supporting documentation received. 7.5 Special Assessment Circumstances and Late Submission Students who, due to circumstances beyond their control, are prevented from completing an assessment item by the due date, or believe their performance on an assessment was impaired, can complete a Special Assessment Circumstances form. The application must be lodged with the appropriate documentation within 5 working days of the due date of the assessment. Students are only allowed to submit one SAC per course, per semester. Students who have not applied for a SAC and had a SAC approved by the Programme Leader, may only receive a maximum grade of C- if the assessment is submitted up to three days beyond the deadline. 7.6 Resits and resubmissions a. Resits and resubmissions of failed summative assessment items are only available for the first assessment item in any course, unless otherwise specified in course information. b. All resits and resubmissions will be carried out in a specified time period not exceeding 14 days from the time the original assessment was returned, or results made available. In all cases, the original marked assignment will accompany resubmitted assignments. If resubmitted work is not accompanied by the original marked assignment, the resubmitted work will not be marked and the original grade will stand. c. The maximum grade for any resit/resubmission of assessment is C-. In all cases the grade achieved on resit/resubmission will be the grade used in calculating the overall course grade. 8. Transitional Arrangements Students commencing the programme in Semester 2 2010 who have completed one semester of study may elect to complete the programme under the new regulations. 9.
