How to Read the Scripts for the Group-Administered Tests (Listening) This document contains the Test Administrator s Script for the Listening Test practice items. The scripted material includes the text that should be read aloud during test administration and the stage directions to help guide the test administrator. Parts with a white background are meant for the administrator. The administrator should read aloud all text in bold font on white background parts. Do NOT read unbolded text aloud. Small, unbolded text gives the administrator directions, and text in small caps gives instructions for controlling the recording. Parts with a grey background will be played on the recording. Any text with a grey background must NOT be read aloud by the administrator. The practice item scripts are provided only for the administrator s reference. Below is a sample of the script with these points highlighted. Begin reading here. Read all bold text aloud. You should be looking at the page labeled Practice 1 at the top. Look at the big picture. The big picture will help you understand what you hear. Do NOT read this text aloud. All unbolded text serves only as a guide for the test administrator. Instructions for controlling the recording will appear in all caps. All text with a grey background is part of the recording, and must NOT be read aloud by the administrator. Use these parts to follow along with the recording. The track number is displayed to the left of the recorded material for your reference. Now, when I start the recording, you must listen carefully because you will hear everything only one time. First you will hear some directions and then you will answer letter A at the bottom. Put your finger on Letter A to show me that you found it. Scan the room and make sure all students are in the right place. If necessary, show students Letter A by holding up the next page of the script and pointing to Letter A. O.K. Now listen carefully to the recording. PRESS PLAY. (TRACK 1) TRACK 1 Practice 1. Look at the big picture. It shows Ms. Miller and her students working in a classroom. Listen to what they say. EXAMPLE Letter A. Female student: Ms. Miller, what time is it? Female teacher: The clock tells you the time. It is eleven o clock. Which picture shows a clock? 4 2013 Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin System. Test Administrator s Script 6 8 Practice

Important Reminders for the Listening Test: During the test, there is no need to pause or stop audio files to allow students to respond. Response time is included in the audio files. Practice the Test Administrator s Script ahead of time. Play each track only one time. Only in the case of a significant interruption should a track be replayed one time. 6 8 Listening Practice Now you are going to practice taking a listening test. I will pass out your test booklets. Please do not open them until I tell you. Pass out test booklets and pencils. Make sure desks are clear of everything but test materials. Does everyone have a test booklet and a pencil? Pause for response. Does anyone have any questions before we begin? Answer any questions. Now open the cover of the test booklet. You will see the title page. It says, Grades Six Eight, Listening Practice. Is everyone there? Hold up the next page of this script to show this. Make sure all students are now on the correct page. You will listen to people talking on a recording, and then you will fill in the circle that goes with what they say on the recording. Listen carefully because you will hear the recording only one time. Does anyone have any questions before we start the practice? Answer any remaining questions. O.K., now turn the page. 6 2013 Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin System. Test Administrator s Script 6 8 Practice
