WHAT IS THE MIAA? The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association is a private, non-profit association organized by its member schools to govern, coordinate and promote education based programs for high school students. The MIAA is self-regulating with the 380 member schools providing individual leaders to serve within the 35 MIAA governance units. The latest annual participation survey demonstrates that 230,664 team positions were filled by studentathletes in 33 sports.

~ Mission Statement ~ The mission of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association is to serve member schools and the maximum number of their students by providing leadership and support for the conduct of interscholastic activities which will enrich the educational experiences of all participants. The MIAA will promote interschool activities that provide lifelong and life-quality learning experiences to students while enhancing their achievement of educational goals.

MIAA Football Committee 2013 2014 STATE MIAA Football Committee PLAYOFF PROPOSAL UPDATED 5/9/12

Goals of the Proposal Establish a State Championship in 6 Divisions Maintain Leagues & Thanksgiving Day Games. Increase Post-Season Opportunities for studentathletes in football. Create Divisions based on Enrollment & Competitive Balance Address Safety Concerns Eliminate 3 games in 9 days.

Benefits of the Proposal Travel limited to Sectional Area. Revenue Sharing for games after the qualification period. No School night (Tuesday night) playoff games. All State Championship Games held at Gillette Stadium. Less Intrusive on Winter Sports, only 12 teams play after Thanksgiving. (Compared to 74 teams playing after Thanksgiving in 2011). This plan is written as a 2 year pilot, commencing in 2013 and allowing for appropriate adjustments in remaining years of 4 year cycle.

Thirty-Eight Annual Meeting April 8, 2016 The Football-Format The Board of Directors voted 15-1 to bring to the Assembly the opportunity to determine whether the current football format would continue beyond 2016. Yes Vote -Continue with the state football tournament format as authored and administered by the football committee No Vote The football regular session will end on Thanksgiving Day with a new football format to be authored an administered by the football Committee

MIAA Basketball Championship Venue Proposal

Student Athlete Experience Road to the Birthplace right of passage Student athlete, Coaches and Fans will have an unprecedented experience in Massachusetts State Basketball history. Friday, March 18 2016: Each team will practice in venue where they will play their championship game (either Springfield College or the MassMutual Center. Teams are invited to a celebratory banquet on Center the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Court of Overnight accommodations in one of Springfield s full-service hotel properties. Saturday, March 19, 2016: Police escort to championship game venue. 12:00 pm 2:30 pm 5:00 pm 7:30 pm

Lodging &Travel Student Athlete Lodging: Ten hotel rooms (8 doubles and two king bedded) hotel rooms will be provided to each of the 16 teams. If the team needs a driver to stay overnight the room will come out of the team allocation. The LOC will determine which teams are accommodated in each property. he Sheraton Springfield Monarch Place Hotel and the Springfield Marriott will offer team meal options for schools whose budget allows. Fans and Family Lodging: The LOC will provide each school with information an hotel packages or families looking to stay over in Springfield on Friday and /or Saturday nights. Packages will include overnight accommodations, attraction tickets and dining options. All packages must be reserved by predetermined cut-off date. Travel Stipend: Each team is eligible for reimbursement up to $200 for travel expenses. Travel expenses will be paid when invoices the allowable expenses (overnight bus parking and driver meals) are submitted to the LOC after the championships. Reimbursement forms will be included in the packet given to each coach and must be submitted to the LOC by April 15, 2016.

Championship Venues MassMutual Center James Naismith Court, Springfield College The MassMutual Center is a multi-purpose arena and convention center located in downtown Springfield, Massachusetts. The basketball court within Blake Arena has been formally named James Naismith Court, in honor of James Naismith, class of 1891.

Banquet Banquet Banquet: A team banquet will be held on Friday night on Center Court at Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Each team will receive 20 tickets to the event which will include dinner and a key note speaker. The basketball hall of fame will draft a list of possible speakers and review with MIAA staff to determine best topic for the presentation. Team reservations must be confirmed ahead of time. LOC will create a timeline of the evening s events in conjunction with MIAA staff which will include time for the event presenting sponsor to speak and a keynote speaker. Road to Springfield's t-shirts(purchase by the LOC) will be distributed at the event.
