Steps for the Southeast Area Technical High School (SEA-Tech) Application Process 1. Contact your 8th grade school counselor. Let your counselor know that you are interested in completing an application for SEA-Tech. This can be done at home, online or on a printed paper copy. If you need computer access at school to complete the application, please ask your counselor to assist you. You must submit a recommendation form to your counselor or a teacher as part of your application process (see Part D, page 6 of the application). 2. Complete the application (using a pen, blue or black ink). The application must be completed with student and parent information. Students will also be asked to complete the Career Goal Essay: Type or Write your essay (250-300 words or less) on the following: What is your career goal and how do you feel applying to Southeast Technical High School will help you accomplish your goal? Students may want to type their essay ahead of time and then copy/paste it into the essay field from your Google drive or a flash drive. 3. APPLICATION CHECKLIST: The counselor will begin collecting items for the Application Checklist, once you ve told him/her of your intent to apply to the school. The counselor will deliver this packet of information to the staff at Southeast Tech. Private School/Charter School Students - If you do not have a School Counselor, your School Administrator will be the one to communicate with regarding the Application Checklist. Homeschool Students - You will also need to submit items for the Application Checklist including available test score results, homeschool attendance data, and recommendations from homeschool instructors (online instructors, itinerant teachers, etc.). The completed application is due to your counselor no later than January 30, 2018. Students who submit a completed application (student/parent information, essay and a counselor/teacher recommendations) will be given a chance to interview with staff. Students will be notified by mail of their status (whether accepted, waitlisted or denied) in late March or early April. 1

Attendance and/or behavioral problems may be sufficient cause to rescind admission into Southeast Area Technical High School. Southeast Area Technical High School students not meeting their prescribed course of study MAY be reassigned to the high school of their attendance zone at the end of the school year. Spelling and Punctuation Career Goal Application Essay Scoring Rubric Essay clearly identifies one or more career goals. Essay includes specific concrete detail and insightful commentary on how to obtain goal(s). Essay shows the student s interest in attending and indicates he/she strongly feels the school will help with meeting career goal(s). 5 4 3 2 Essay uses proper grammar. Sentences flow well and vary in construction and length. Essay uses words that are appropriate to the grade level and show they ve put thought into the content prior to submitting. Essay makes some reference to being interested, but lacks commitment and/or little reference to how the school can help meet career goal(s). Essay has a few grammar problems. Sentences flow well but do not vary much. Essay makes some quality but also some routine or ordinary word choices that question the students own wording. Essay has a few errors to fix, but generally uses correct conventions. Essay presents the career goal in an ordinary way. Essay includes concrete detail, but commentary is generic about his/her career goal. Essay shows very little evidence that the student is interested in the school and does not connect their goal(s) with attending this school. Essay has enough grammar errors to distract a reader.
