Doctor of Medicine (DM) Programmes DM degrees in General Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, Otorhinolaryngology (ORL), Neurosurgery, Urology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Ophthalmology, Emergency Medicine, Radiology, Haematology and Medical Oncology, Internal Medicine, Medical Microbiology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Psychiatry, Anaesthesia & Intensive Care and MD (research only). Courses commence on July 1, 2018. Diploma and Doctor of Medicine (DM) Family Medicine programmes are structured such that a Resident in training is required to remain employed in a Public or Private Clinic setting. The applicant must supply written permission from employer (where applicable) for day releases for programme activities at time of application. MSc/MPhil/PhD Nursing The Master of Science (Nursing) degree, MPhil and PhD programmes are offered on a full-time/part-time basis: MScN specializing in Mental Health/Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, Nursing Education, Nursing Administration, Clinical Nurse Specialist (General) and Clinical Nurse Specialist (Gerontology Nursing Option). Tropical Medicine Research Institute Programmes MSc, MPhil and PhD degrees in Nutrition. These programmes provide training in the theoretical and practical aspects of human nutrition, with special reference to the problems and needs of the Caribbean. The programmes are open to graduates with a Bachelor s degree in biological science, or in chemistry or other subjects acceptable to the Faculty of Medical Sciences.
Master of Science Epidemiology The MSc Epidemiology Programme accepts graduates in medicine and dentistry and persons with Bachelor s degrees (with second class honours or higher) in health sciences, pure and applied sciences or social sciences. In addition to the fundamentals of epidemiology and biostatistics, the programme includes training in infectious disease epidemiology, genetic epidemiology, chronic disease epidemiology, health services research, ethics and data management. MPhil/PhD Epidemology Programme is open to graduates with a degree in Epidemiology and other disciplines. Graduates who do not have an advanced degree in Epidemiology will be required to complete specified courses from the MSc Epidemiology programme Master of Science Forensic Science Specialization Forensic Biology, Forensic Chemistry, Forensic Pathology and Forensic Toxicology Postgraduate Diploma Forensic Science Specialization - Forensic Biology, Crime Scene Investigation and Forensic Toxicology Master of Science - Counselling The MSc Counselling programme accepts graduates with a first degree with Second Class Honours, in the Arts, Social Sciences, Law or the Health Services. In addition to learning the basic counseling models, the programme includes both theoretical and practical training at practicum sites in vocational/career counseling, individual and group counseling, family therapy, ethical and legal issues, developing counseling programmes and quantitive and qualitative research methods. Training is provided by a blend of face-to-face teaching at each Caribbean Englishspeaking Caribbean site where students are enrolled, and computer-mediated instruction using the internet. A therapy group is also provided at each site where five or more students are enrolled.
