Students take the SRI, Scholastic Reading Inventory 2. Grades 3-5, students scoring before 400 take the SPI, Scholastic Phonics Inventory 3. Determine Placement: a. System 44 SPI Screening Report: students below 70-80% in either Letter Names Accuracy, Sight Words Accuracy, Nonsense Words Accuracy (Phonics)

Acceleration and Accuracy 2,400 minutes a year for 2 years growth 300 minutes a month 75 minutes a week 15-20 minutes a day 120 sessions READ 180 Software Placement in one of 4 levels Session = 1 day Segments = 5-10 days per segment Topics = 1-2 topics a day READ 180 Overview Reading Zone 2 or more quick check questions 90% mastery for comprehension and vocabulary 10-15 questions in segment Word Zone Assessed on how they can identify words in ¾ of a second Words pushed into long term memory Under 90% mastery Word Clinic Spelling Zone 97% mastery or Words become part of personal mastery list to practice Success Zone Discrepancy passage Final recording Context passage with 90% mastery required READ 180 Reports Participation Report: Class report to monitor usage (customize for time periods)

READ 180 Comparative Time on Task: Classroom report run on weekly basis to monitor usage How do students promote through the READ 180 software? Level 1 students must be manually promoted o Mastery criteria of higher than 85% in 3 segments for promotion Use Classroom Report: READ 180 Reading Progress Report (History) o Run every 2 weeks to promote, demote, or keep students at same level to ensure success Mastery = Auto = Promotion (How students respond on first try) o 97% in Quick Check Questions o 97% in Word Zone Assessment o 97% in Spelling Zone Assessment o 96% in Levels 2 and 3 Mastery in each of the three zones the computer will automatically promote o Teacher can still promote from level 2 to 3 or from level 3 to 4 o Reading Progress Report: Class report to monitor software progress

READ 180 Student Reading Report: Check to see if mastery is consistent trend upward Promote student by selecting student s name in Rooster Tab then READ 180 Next Generation Settings

Adjust promotion by using drop down menu: Promotion will happen after current Topic is completed System 44 System 44 Software 25 series 5-8 Topics per series 1-2 topics a day The Code, Sight Words, Word Strategies, Success, Writing Placement in either series 1 or 4 Must go through every series until 4 and then can fast track Session = 1 day Coaching tip: Help students recognize when they get to a fast track Red screen is assessment activity (put sticky note on computer) System 44 Reports RTI, Response to Intervention: Keep on track on pacing (Can be run by grade level) How many minutes on the software; how many segments completed Each topic should take 1-2 days to complete 160 days to complete the entire scope and sequence

System 44 Reading Progress Report: Class Report

Reports: Student Progress Report How many topics fast- tracked and how many completed SRC, Scholastic Reading Counts How do we access Scholastic Reading Counts for our System 44, Read 180 students? 1. Students log in using the Scholastic Student Access Icon 2. Then select either the ereads or ebooks *At home reading access for READ 180 and System 44 enrolled students is possible through CIA website: Tab for families, then Scholastic Programs Scholastic Student Link for iread, System 44, and READ 180

SRC! Books Read: Post books and words read How do we know which books have tests in the SRC system? Lists available in SAM, Books tab through search feature

Use SAM s Book Expert Online or go directly to website Book Expert Online Student can also search for a quiz by logging into SRC then entering author or title Do kids need to read books exactly at their lexile level or in a range 100L below and 50 L above? Yes. If students read too low they will not excel and if too high, they won t be able to read the quiz questions.
