Decree of the Head of Department n. 740/2017 Registration number (Prot.) 51187 of 31 October 2017 Title: III class 13 SUBJECT: Announcement of a call for applications for the selection of 4 fixed-term collaborators ( collaborazione coordinata e continuativa ) to assist with research and fieldwork, in order to implement the activities envisaged by the project DiGe. Having considered Ca Foscari University of Venice s Statute; having considered Italian Legislative decree no. 165/2001, particularly Art. 7 from section 6 onward; having considered Art. 1.303 of Italian Law 232/2016; having considered the University s regulations governing administrative, financial and accounting activities; having considered the University s regulations regarding the hiring of external collaborators, which was enacted by Rector s decree no. 914/prot. no. 23361 on 27 October 2011, and then modified by Rector s decree no. 321/prot. no. 16856 on 22 April 2014; having considered the Italian Legislative decree issued on June 2015, no. 81; having considered the decree of the University s Head of Administration no. 04/2017; having considered the project the ERC-2016-STG/ERC-2016-STG, Grant Agreement n. 714874;, that implements the University s current Strategic Plan, whose principal objectives include Promoting Research for Impact ; having considered the request of the Principal Investigator Dr. Renata Sõukand of the project European Project named Ethnobotany of divided generations in the context of centralization - DiGe, who requested the hiring of 4 collaborators to assist with the implementation of the aforementioned project; having confirmed that the expense involved in the hiring of said collaborators, 13 000 euro, will be covered by CUP: H72F17000740006, to be accessed from account no. AC 03.05.03 dedicated to Co.Co.Co Altro (su fin. Esterni), AIS.UEDIGE.SOUKAND es. fin. 2017); and having noted that the proposing office has ensured that this decree respects the current relevant Italian legislation and the regulations of the university, the Head of Department of DAIS of Ca Foscari University of Venice declares the following: Art. 1 Call for applicants Ca Foscari University of Venice has announced the intention to identify 6 collaborator(s) to assist in the implementation of DiGe activities via the comparison of the candidates curriculum vitae and interviews. External candidates will be considered in the event that suitable internal candidates cannot be found. Art. 2 Job description 1. The University is seeking candidates for the following role(s): assistance in research and field work

More specifically, the candidate(s) selected will be assigned the following tasks and activities: Four assistant researcher positions are available within the research project Ethnobotany of divided generations in the context of centralization. The project is funded by the European Research Council (ERC-2016-StG 714874) and all positions are offered for 9 month. The successful applicants will form a team of ten researchers whose collaborative effort will lead to creating an advanced understanding of the mechanisms of change in the practical use of plants for food, healing and ethnoveterinary medicine. This research will evaluate the effects of centralization (in education, medicine and government policies) and the sudden termination of such centralization with the subsequent impact of the attempted revival of discontinued traditional ethnobotanical knowledge. Four case studies will be conducted within compact but divided ethnic minorities that, for shorter (25 years: Setu (between Estonia and Russia) and the Dzūkija region (Lithuania/Belorussia/Poland)) or longer (70 years North Karelia (Finland/Russia) and Bukovina (Ukaine/Romania)) periods, have been subjected to various influences affecting their plant use as well as very different social conditions (including welfare and economy). Applicants must be prepared for lengthy fieldtrips (up to 3 consecutive months in the field). Successful applicants are expected to take part in all joint project activities as well as in relevant research and educational activities and work as an integral part of the team. Candidates are expected to be in residence in Venice for the duration of the employment, except during data collection. Art. 3 Job context and location 1. The activities described in Art. 2 will take place in Venice, Italy, at Ca Foscari University in the following department: DAIS Art. 4 Duration of the appointment 1. The activities described in Art. 2 are to be completed within a maximum of 9 months, and the period of employment will begin once an official contract has been drawn up and signed. 2. This appointment will be quantified for internal recognition as having involved 36 hours of work per week for 9 months. 3. If an external candidate is selected, he or she will be given an Italian Co.Co.Co. contract (Collaborazione coordinata e continuativa) lasting 9 months. The start date of the period of employment will be determined after the selection process has come to a close. Art. 5 Required qualifications

To be eligible to participate in the selection process, a candidate must have these qualifications and characteristics: - a master s degree (as defined by Italian Ministerial Decrees 509/99 and 270/04) or equivalent, or an Italian degree of the vecchio ordinamento (obtained before Italian Ministerial Decree 509/99) or 5-year diploma in ethnobiology, anthropology, ethnography, folklore, botany, ecology, history, linguistics, pharmacy, informatics or a related field. - work experience in ethnobotanical, ethnographic or anthropological fieldwork is essential; preferably has conducted research related to the local use of plants or has advanced knowledge in botany.; - a certified minimum B2-level knowledge of English as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages; - a criminal record that does not preclude involvement in public administration; - be not related by blood or marriage within four degrees to the rector, the Head of Administration (Direttore generale), or any member of the Administrative Council (Consiglio di Amministrazione) (for a description of the university s organization and administrative bodies, please visit http://www.unive.it/pag/11014); - as indicated in Grant Agreement, art. 35, do not present any conflict of interest for reasons involving economic interest, political or national affinity, family or emotional ties or any other shared interest; as well as the following: General prerequisites: Proven publication record in ethnobotany or ethnobiology (at least one publication on the local use of plants, regardless of time period, territory or discipline) is desired, but not required Good working knowledge of MS Office programs (including Excel; Access is desirable, but not mandatory) At least minimal knowledge of statistical programs (R or Anthropac) or a clear desire to learn to use them Specific prerequisites: o Collaborator 1 (Bukovina): Fluency in Romanian is mandatory Experience working in local (Romania) archives is highly desired Working knowledge of Russian and/or Ukrainian desired, but not essential Person with a background in anthropology or ethnography will have an advantage. o Collaborator 2 (Belarus/Lithuanian/Polish border:) Fluency in Lithuanian is mandatory Fluency in Russian and/or Belarussian is desired, but not essential Familiarity with the region of Belarus/Lithuanian/Polish border is desired o Collaborator 3 (Setu):

Fluency in Russian is mandatory Working knowledge of Estonian or Setu is desirable, but not required Experience in working in folkloristic or ethnographic archives in the Russian Federation is required. o Collaborator 4 (North Karelia) Behavioural prerequisites: Fluency in (North) Karelian and Finnish are mandatory Fluency in Russian is desired Advanced education in botany (above high-school botany) is desired Experience in working in folkloristic or ethnographic archives in the Russian Federation is highly desired Previous experience working in Karelia and having already published any piece of research on the region will be a distinct advantage. Ability to work independently and as part of a team Good communication skills Readiness for transnational mobility Art. 6 Application procedure for internal candidates 1. Internal candidates in administrative positions who have full-time permanent employment in Category D and who are in possession of all of the characteristics/qualifications listed in Art. 5 can apply to be temporarily reassigned to DAIS. 2. An internal candidate s application must include the application form (Attachment 1) and a curriculum vitae, both signed, as well as a statement of authorization from the person in charge of the office/structure/department for which he or she works; the application must arrive no later than 10 November 2017 in one of the following ways: directly sent to DAIS Secretary Via Torino, 155 30172 Venezia 3. In the case of applications sent by fax or ordinary mail, the candidate must also include a copy of a valid identity document. 4. Unsigned applications will not be considered, nor will applications that arrive after the aforementioned deadline. Art. 7 Selection process for internal candidates 1. Internal applicants applications will be evaluated by the project manager through the comparison of curriculum vitae, evaluating the relevance of the applicants experience as required by Art. 52 of Italian Legislative Decree no. 165/2001. 2. If an internal applicant is selected, the Human Resources Office will arrange his or her temporary reassignment. Art. 8 Application procedure for external applicants

1. External applicants are eligible candidates if they satisfy the prerequisites described in Art. 9. 2. An external applicant s application must be prepared using the appropriate form (Attachment 2) and include a curriculum vitae, with both documents bearing the applicant s signature; the application must be submitted no later than 15 November 2017 using a certified e-mail to the address protocollo@pec.unive.it. The application including the candidate curriculum vitae can be delivered by express courier: the complete application must arrive on 15 November 2017 before 12:00 am. Applications that are unsigned or arrive after the deadline, regardless of the reason, will not be taken into consideration. 4. The evaluation of external applicants applications will only take place if no acceptable internal candidate is found. Art. 9 Qualifications required of external applicants 1. By the application deadline, eligible external candidates must possess all of the skills and experience required to carry out the activities outlined in Art. 5. 2. Filling out the application form, external candidates must declare their first and last names, the date and location of their birth, their mailing address, telephone number, email address, and the address at which they wish to be contacted, as well as a statement asserting that there are no obstacles to their working in public administration and that they possess the qualifications outlined in Art. 5., as required in Attachment 2 (Application form for external applicants not already employed at Ca Foscari University). Art. 10 Selection process 1. The selection will be carried out by a specially organized Committee, which will assess the knowledge and skills demonstrated by the candidates curriculum vitae and interviews. Art. 11 Evaluation criteria 1. The evaluation of the knowledge and skills described in the candidates curriculum vitae will be carried out on the basis of the following criteria : evaluation of application, CV and publications 2. The convocation of candidates who merit an interview will be communicated by the Selection Committee via the email address indicated by each candidate in his or her application, and the date of the interviews will be announced on the university s website. 3. The convocation via email and the publication on the website of the candidates admitted to the interview are considered sufficient notice. The candidates admitted to the interview must present themselves on the appointed day, at the appropriate hour and in the appropriate place, bringing an identity document. If a candidate does not appear for the interview, this will disqualify him or her from consideration. 4. Candidates living farther than 200 Kms from Venice may ask to hold a telematic interview.

Art. 12 Results of the selection process 1. At the end of the selection process, the Selection Committee will prepare a report indicating the results and identifying who has been selected for the appointment(s). 2. The selection process results will be posted on the University website in the Work with us section not later than 1 December 2017. Art. 13 Employment contract and compensation 1. At the end of the selection process, a contract for 9 months of external employment of the type known in Italy as a Collaborazione coordinata e continuativa will be drawn up for the candidate(s) chosen for the appointment(s). The compensation indicated in the contract will be the total pay in 13 000 euros for the 9-month period (gross amount for the recipient). 2. The compensation will be paid to the selected candidate(s) in monthly installments on the basis of the progress of the activities that the appointment(s) requires to be carried out. 3. If a selected candidate is an employee of another public administration body that requires authorization be given according to Art. 53 of Italian Legislative Decree no. 165 of 30 March 2001, the candidate will need to present the proper authorization of his or her superior before a contract for the new appointment is drawn up. 4. The selected candidates will be required to acknowledge and respect the university s Ethical Code and Code of Conduct. Art. 15 Cross-referencing 1.
