I honestly can't do that. The first part of the class was great and hands on, the rest was torture. Utilize Blackboard capabilities better in my current face-to-face class Develop/design an upcoming online class 1. Including different types of assessments, both summative and formative 2. Thinking about accessibility when designing my course 3. Providing instant feedback o o o I will utilize Discussion Board effectively. I will make use of Styles to make ADA accessible documents. I will make use of close captioning. - Use blackboard for surveys - Use blackboard for listing student grades - Use blackboard for quizzes To create and distribute quizzes and assignments in my face-to-face classes To continue to build an online course To create more accessible materials for both face-to-face classes and online classes 7. I will apply what I have learned to the design of my course. 8. I will apply what I have learned to the development of assessments that are appropriate for making my online course feel like a community. 9. I will place accessibility front and center in my course design and content creation. 10. The first thing that comes to mind is the grading component. I find that many students are asking for their grades online and having the training in this I can quickly implement this for them. 11. The document accessibility training was very useful. Practicing with the unformated syllabus made formating my own syllabus easier and I can implement this in the Spring semester.

12. Building a more functional and outlined Bd site with content was a key component for me as well. I can rework my current Bb be easier to navigate for students. If I ever have the opportunity to design an online course, the knowledge gained in this course will greatly assist me in the total design process. Especially enlightening was the accessibility module. Make my classes more accessible by: 13. creating accessible documents, videos, captioning 14. I gained a better understanding of the needs of students with disabilities and how to meet those needs, where to refer them for services, and where to go when I need help meeting their needs, 15. the course inspired me to continue to learn more about accessibility through workshops, online courses, bugging Phil and Amanda 1, Take the lessons learned and implement then into my current courses. 2, Apply various modalities of learning within an online course. 3, Incorporate more blackboard use in all classes. Revising and creating more ADA accessible documents and presentations. Utilizing SCC resources to provided closed captions on videos for all classes. Utilize blogs effectively. Gonna add a fourth: I really liked learning new ways to express information in Blackboard rather than only providing links to documents, etc. I really like the unit idea and having learned how to group and organize information in new and even more logical ways. 16. Use of inline grading of TurnItIn for constructive feedback 17. Camtasia videos as supplemental visual aids 18. Discussion boards for frequently asked questions that students might have 1. I will create videos with captions. 2. I will create quizzes and exams on Blackboard 3. I will create accessible assignments. Question 9: Essay

How will this online course affect student learning in the courses you teach (or will teach online)? 2 Unanswered Responses I will use what I have learned to create accessible courses as this, in turn, creates an inclusive environment for all students as well as support students' who learn differently. This online course will affect the technologies use, the level of engagement I have with my students, and help me to be more compliant with ADA. It has given me the tools to use both formative and summative assessments. It has caused me to think about outcomes first and designing assignments around measuring those outcomes. I don't teach online yet, and I don't know if it is in the cards for me. I have mixed feelings about teaching online still. BUT this course has made me feel much more prepared. It will greatly enhance it. It helps tremendously with the class organization Hopefully, it will allow me to provide learning opportunities to more students in more ways. I hope that I can use what I have learned to enhance my teaching in all classes and make the information and the learning activities available to all of my students. This course outline will be the road map / foundation of how to successfully employ SLO's. The class will be able to give me more direct input when assignments vary from student to student. I like the discussion board feature for that area In every way. Every assignment is designed to fulfill the student learning outcomes. I am thinking about online quizzes in future classes to start. I am always looking for ways to encourage students to study at home. Quizzes and discussion boards are tools that I think will help accomplish this. The awareness I have gained of the intricacies of course development has made me more aware of the challenges some students face in navigating an online course. It has given me excellent examples of effective ways to approach online teaching, such as how to convey and organize information from assignments to evaluations as well as different ways to engage student-to-student and instructor-to-student interactions. This class has also given me examples to follow in order to create more of a sense of

community in this online environment. All of the above will have a direct, positive impact on student learning and success. Again, the first half was great and then I felt like I was in grade school commenting on others Discussion Boards and giving them accolades for...creating a course which we all have to do!!! Question 10: Multiple Choice How many students will be affected by what you learned in this online course in the next academic year? Percent Answered 1-49 33.333% 50-99 33.333% 100-199 13.333% 200-299 13.333% 300 or more 6.667% Question 11: Essay What did you like most about the Online Teaching Certificate series? 0 Unanswered Responses I best liked getting to know some of the staff at SCC and felt that the new faculty were "in this together". I would really like to see a group formed to follow up with learning more about accessibility and sharing our challenges and successes. I also liked the feeling of success when I did well on an assignment, especially the ones I struggled through but persevered. The second or third modules were the most interesting. I liked playing in the sandbox and creating a site for a class. I also liked learning more about embedding and captioning videos. I appreciated the instruction on how to make

documents more accessible as well. I also appreciated the different blogs and discussion boards where all were encouraged to share open and honest hopes, fears, concerns, and struggles. Finally, I greatly appreciated how Professor James ran the classes--his positive attitude and willingness to assist was quite comforting. His approach to teaching the class helps to make this new environment less scary and more welcoming. Being able to connect with other faculty and staff memebers The fact that it was online. I would not have been able to participate if it had not been online. I really liked the environment. The classmates and Scott made this process not as intensely "scary" it was still intense and online instruction is no joke...if done right. However, it was really interesting to bring so many different minds together and see what we all came up with. The course design. I think I had the most fun with learning how to make documents accessible. Beyond that going through others sandbox sites gave me ideas for how to set up a more student-user friendly Bb site for my classes. I liked the ADA part because it give instructors who never gave a thought about it a slight glimpse of what I do to have to remedy their materials. Also form design and video creation has become so second nature to me it s fun I like that the teaching certificate was 100% online. The online class allowed me to work on the assignments at my own time. Also, it was great learning from my classmates. Honestly, not much. It's this simple: This certificate program should be designed to actually have the participants create their course as they go and then as they learned, they could go back and correct or fix things. Instead, it's this fictitious online "pat you on the back" FILLED with rules and regulations seminar. So DRAINING! The comraderie among my peers and Scott's teaching and mentorship Being provided with the opportunity to develop tools to make me a better teacher. Wish we had more opportunities like this. The systematic (step-by-step) approach to course design. I most enjoyed learning from my peers via Discussion Board. Question 12: Essay When did you feel the most engaged with this online course series?

Unanswered Responses 0 I don't feel like there were ups and downs in engagement. The course required engagement every week and it was very consistent. When I began the process of formatting my class on Blackboard. Again, the first week was the most helpful. After that, total nonsense. Every week aside from the the week prior to Thanksgiving... Life threw a curve ball and I had to step back from things to take care of other things. I felt most engaged in the ADA part because it allowed me to answer individualized questions for other instructors. It goes to show that not everything is cookie cutter or there s a magical switch that makes everything easy The discussions created a great learning community. During the discussion boards Almost throughout the entire course length Building my online class I felt most engaged in the first section of our course, as I enjoyed learning more about various teaching methodologies. I also enjoyed the use of Discussion Board and Sandbox. At the beginning when we were doing more interacting with each other. I was really engaged up to the last few weeks of the third course. I think that has more to do with the Thanksgiving holiday interrupting the flow than with the class. In the Discussion Board forums. Most engaged? Working on the accessibility assignments and building the sandbox site. I did find discussion posts interesting and a good place to find ideas about an assignment. But I think most of the learning for me happened when I was building the sandbox site or working on making things accessible. When we were building the components of our own courses. Question 13: Essay When did you feel most distanced from this online course series?

Unanswered Responses 0 Did not feel that much at all When responses/grades were not responded to in a timely manner. Sometimes I felt a little lost and didn't feel there was a person I could reach out to for help. It was around the Thanksgiving holiday and with the assignment where we had to create our own video. I just don't want to do a video of myself. I will do intro videos for students, but I will use cartoons or avatars. Not sure what it is that puts me off with it--but I don't want to be on film. It's me, not the class. :) Ironically, it was when we had to post on discussion boards. During Thanksgiving week. I felt most distanced in the last four weeks, due to balancing grading and class preparations, as the semester's schedule became increasingly demanding. Week 2-4. When there were no announcements I did not feel distanced Creating the video The second part of the class where we had to design. I was under the impression that it could be setup the way we want our class. Introducing modules which I thought I would never use confused me (ie blogs) Only when I was preoccupied with life issues that became came about suddenly. In the last module. I found much of it to be too individually driven and not engaging. Waiting for grades or for replies to happen. I think I am in more need of immediate gratification. I very quickly wanted to know what Scott thought of my work and if I understood the assignment correctly. The wait was something to get used to. The online course had many challenges in regards to its organization. It felt disorganized at times. Question 14: Essay

Please list additional comments or suggestions to improve this online course certificate program. 2 Unanswered Responses It was a great course! All is good! It would be helpful If you could add samples of successful online classes. NA I mentioned earlier that I was more neutral about the organization of the courses. I think that in an attempt to illustrate the various ways that we can set up our courses and the various places to put information about assignments and Learning Units, etc., the course can be confusing to navigate. I find myself looking through two to three different sets of instructions to make sure that I'm completing my work adequately, and sometimes looking in so many places causes confusion and anxiety. Still, I get why Professor James would provide info in so many places, but it does make it difficult to work through the course. Use these videos for copyright. It helped me years ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tk862bbjwx4&t=187s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=siexgpp37no I think that a pop out about grading would be useful - weighting, etc. Only suggestion is roll out canvas since we are all moving to that, but that is already going to happen once SCC gets it. Great class and keep doing what you are doing. This seems to me a typical bureaucratic nightmare that will never be fixed. Scott seems to e a nice guy who is easily accessible and there to help. However, what is he helping with? This course is WAY too loaded with ADA and accesilble information. I wanna follow the rules, but man...that's way too many rules. As I said earlier the course should be set up so you are actually creating a "mock" version of your course so you can go back and copy and paste and fix things AS you learn. Instead it is like a Facebook nightmare that you have to constantly log on so you can stay in the loop. Get rid of all the crap and make it

basic on how to set up the class and go. I mean do you REALLY expect me to remember things from Week 1 on how I set up my "Sandbox." Sandbox...really...what am I...6 years old? This is just a perfect example of educators needing to feel important. What a waste of time. There should be a point in the semester when we all meet to talk about our courses, ask questions, and just get to know each other. One meeting wouldn't be too much to ask. Loved the "eggs"--i'm a good egg-finder, as you found out! The only improvement would be more timely feedback. To improve the course? I'm not sure here. I don't have other online class experience to compare this one to. I think it has set the bar high for future online classes I would take though. Great job. Keep up the good work Question 15: Essay What topics, that were not covered, would you like to see covered in this certificate program? 1 Unanswered Responses How to create cool graphics NA Currently, there are none that I can think of. If something comes to mind, I will make it a point to reach out. What to expect when we move from theory to practice. If possible, it would be incredibly useful to have example courses--assignments--group work for each discipline so that each of us, especially those who don't have online classes at SCC, can see how other professors approach translating their face-to-face classes to the online environment. I honestly can't think of anything that wasn't covered that would pertain to online teaching See my other answers...again, a survey that could have been 10 questions instead of 17. How do you feel? What did you like? Give me a break. Weighting grades. Dealing with students. Developing a hybrid course.

I think it would have been helpful to spend more time and detail on how to create different types of exams. I think having a section about weighted grades and dropping grades included would be useful. I feel more instructors than not will have exams or some assignments dropped and this would be a good topic to cover in the readings or when we set up our grade center. More hands on activities N/A I don't have any specific topics in mind right now, but I am sure that I will have questions as I continue to build my online course. I was and am going crazy on the spacing between lines in Word documents. I tried using the Format tool but I do not have that much experience in this area and am a bit frustrated. Question 16: Essay What type of support do you expect to need going forward? 2 Unanswered Responses I am worried about the conversion to Canvas. I know I would need more training than a 2-3 hour Flex activity. With what we learned for Bb in these 12 weeks, I think we will need something along the lines of this class for Canvas. Maybe 4 weeks instead of 12 for the conversion training for those that have been through this program. Input on the design of a new on-line class Support with making videos closed captioned. A support network with other online professors with whom I can bounce ideas off of and glean from their successes. A list of DOs AND DON'T FORGET TO DO THIS! I need to go back to Week 1 to "remember" everything I learned. Make it MORE hands on get rid of all the fluff and Discussion Board crap. I don't care what others are doing. Emotional support!!! build a class is going to be stressful, however, once it's done the foundation will be there. Help in case I have questions when setting up my course

Spacing in documents. Haven't tried making a power point accessible yet but may do that for my other document required for Week 4. Too soon to tell. I already know that I'll need help with the infrastructure of canvas. Feedback on course design and ADA accessible documents. Will the resources provided remain accessible after the curse end? They would be helpful to have moving forward. I expect that I will need advice on how to best structure lessons for my online class. Examples of what other online instructors are doing would be extremely helpful. N/A Question 17: Essay What instructional technology workshops would you be interested in attending? 2 Unanswered Responses Canvas; moving info from BB to Canvas; and using the grading system without having to do assignments WITHIN blackboard. The one about the Ipads in the classroom I would like to attend a course design workshop. This question assumes that I am aware of a lot of instructional technology. I'd be interested in attending workshops on instructional technology that others have used and found helpful. I would be most interested in any sort of workshop which teaches us how to effectively utilize software in an online class. Video capturing and editing. Additional accessibility training Using Camtasia or text to voice tools. Tips and technology for on-line teaching Canvas training if it were build up over a couple a sessions. Having the District support it with unit(s) for salary advancement would be a huge help!

Canvas training--and training to transfer Blackboard sites to Canvas. Training to create active videos/ppts for online presentations and flipped classrooms. Canvas workshops, recording lectures types of workshops, and maybe even a Q&A with longtime online instructors regarding their experiences. None.
