2018 Need-Based Scholarships These are general descriptions of scholarships available for and/or Undergraduate / Graduate College Student with demonstrated financial need. Completion of the FAFSA form is required for all need-based scholarships. D & A Scholarship Fund For a high school senior or undergraduate student, who needs financial assistance and is a resident in Lee, Charlotte, Hendry or Glades County, with a GPA 3.5 or higher. For any high school senior in Lee, Charlotte, Hendry or Glades County at a public or private school. For anyone who has already graduated from high school and has yet to turn 23. Must have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher for his or her entire period attending high school. Must need financial assistance. Must be attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Florida State University in Tallahassee, Stetson University in Deland, University of Florida in Gainesville, University of Miami in Coral Gables or University of Tampa in Tampa. Must be studying Architecture, Engineering, Literature, Business, International Relations, Medicine, Chemistry, Journalism, Physics, Music (Julliard only), Computer Science, Law or Political Science. $10,000 Renewable up to 4 years 1

Judge Isaac Anderson, Jr. Scholarship Fund To fund a scholarship to a two- or four-year regionally accredited college or university to a Lee County high school senior who is an African American student. $1,300 Must graduate from public or private high school in Lee County. Must be an African-American student. Must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Must demonstrate strong community ties, preferably to the local Dunbar community, through extracurricular activities, religious endeavors or community service. Must plan to attend a two- or four-year regionally accredited college or university. Selected applicants will be called for an interview in April. Jane H. Berktold Scholarship For graduates of Lee County public high schools in need of financial assistance. Must graduate from public high school in Lee County. Must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher. James Bilder Scholarship Fund For Lee County high school students to pursue higher education with preference given to students attending vocational/technical schools. Must be a graduate from a high school in Lee County. Preference given to applicants planning to attend vocational/technical schools. Howard P. & Magdalen K. Breitenbach Scholarship Fund For a student in need of financial assistance who was either a service member, or is a child or grandchild of a service member who was in the United States Navy. Must graduate from a public or private high school in Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry or Lee County. Must be either a former service member of the U.S. Navy or a child/grandchild of a Navy Service Member. Must provide proof of service in the Navy. $5,000 (3 awards) $4,400 (2 awards) $9,300 (3 awards) 2

Carl E. Brooks Scholarship Fund For college bound students of one or more immigrant parents. Must graduate from public or private high school in Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry or Lee County. Must be the child of an immigrant parent. Must provide proof of parent s immigrant status (copy of immigration card or birth certificate). Selected applicants will be called for an interview in April. $2,950 (2 awards) Doctors Ira and Udaya Dash Nursing Scholarship Fund For a student studying nursing at Florida Gulf Coast University or Florida Southwestern. $900 Must reside in Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry or Lee County. Must plan to attend or be attending Florida Southwestern College or Florida Gulf Coast University. Must be enrolled in a Nursing Program. Dunbar Heritage Scholarship Fund For a Dunbar High School graduate, of African-American descent, to pursue a bachelor s degree at an accredited college. $1,900 Must be a graduating member of Dunbar High School. Must be of African-American descent. Must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Must enter college within the year following high school Graduation. Anne M. Fassett Scholarship Fund For post high school educational opportunities at a college, community college or technical school level for men and women with a physical disability and use a wheelchair. $3,650 Must graduate from public or private high school in Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry or Lee County; or, be currently enrolled or planning to attend a Florida state college, community college, or technical school. Must have a physical disability and use a wheelchair. 3

William L. Graddy Law School Scholarship Fund For students who have completed the first year at an accredited law school. $1,000 Must have completed first year of law school. Must have a GPA of 2.8 or above. Must have been a resident of Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry or Lee county for at least 3 years. Must demonstrate financial need. Matt Harmon Memorial Scholarship Fund For books and tuition for college-bound baseball players. $950 Must graduate from a public school in Lee County. Must be male. Must have played baseball in high school. Robert A. Kleckner Scholarship Fund For a financially needy high school, undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a career in finance or accounting. $2,250 Must graduate from a high school in Charlotte, Collier, Lee, Hendry or Glades County. Must pursue degree in Finance or Accounting. Gerard C. Mehr Scholarship Fund For a Southwest Florida student graduating high school or possessing a GED, or to adult learners seeking continued education from accredited colleges, universities or training from certified job training programs. $900 High School GED Holders Adult Learners Essay must express desire to acquire new skills and goals to help others. Must live in Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry or Lee Counties. 4

Love of Bonita Empowerment Scholarship Fund For books, tuition and/or course fees for Bonita Springs residents who have been out of school for at least two years to attend a college or technical school. $1,000 GED Holders Must be a resident of Bonita Springs. Must be out of high school for at least two years or received their GED. Julie Willard Mikell Fund For a Lee County high school senior, in need of financial assistance, to attend a 2- or 4-year regionally accredited college or university. $1,850 Must graduate from a public or private high school in Lee County. Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Must demonstrate strong ties to the community through extracurricular activities, religious endeavors or community service. Robert B. and Dorothy Pence Scholarship Fund For Lee County students, who need financial assistance, to attend college or technical school. $1,800 Must graduate from a public or private high school in Lee County. Must be an industrious student with good moral character. Faye Lynn Roberts Education Scholarship Fund For women pursuing a career in technical studies, court reporting, computer training or nursing. $750 High School Must be 21 years of age or older. Must be a resident of Lee County. Must be a single mother. Must demonstrate financial need. 5

David G. Robinson Arts Scholarship Fund For a Lee County high school graduate who plans to study the arts at an accredited school. $2,250 Must graduate from a high school in Lee County. Must plan to study the arts. Must be an industrious student with good moral character. Must show leadership and community service. Sanibel Community Church Scholarship Fund: Next Generation Fund Trust For a child or grandchild of a member of Sanibel Community Church. $2,000 Must be a child or grandchild of a member of Sanibel Community Church. Must show academic excellence and other abilities. Must be a high school graduate; private, public or home schooled certified. Must have a commitment to the Christian faith and lifestyle. Must have a willingness to serve others in a church and community. Robert C. & Margaret A. Schikora Scholarship Fund For students who need financial assistance and have previously graduated from high schools in Lee County to pursue postsecondary educational opportunities. $1,200 Must graduate from public or private high school in Lee County with documented 3.0 GPA. Must be well rounded in terms of education, community service, sports and leadership activities. 6

John M. & Mary A. Shanley Memorial Scholarship For a 4-year scholarship to students studying medicine, law, dentistry, teaching (math or science), ministry, engineering, accounting, agriculture, architecture or computer science. For a four-year scholarship to students studying Law, Medicine, Dentistry, Teaching, Ministry, Engineering, Accounting, Agriculture, Architecture or Computer Science. Must graduate from a high school in Charlotte, Hendry or Lee County. Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. $5,000 Renewable up to 4 years (4 awards) Selected applicants will be called for an interview. Ellen Sheppard Scholarship Fund For a Lee County high school senior or a graduate currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in art (specifically visual arts painting, photography, or sculpture) or nursing. $3,200 Must graduate from a high school in Lee County. Must have a minimum 3.5 GPA. Must pursue a degree in Art, specifically visual arts/painting, photography or sculpture; or, nursing. Allen B. and Elizabeth W. Shevach Scholarship Fund for University of Florida College of Medicine For deserving students who graduate from a high school in Lee County and enroll at the University of Florida College of Medicine. $1,500 Must be a high school graduate of a Lee County High School. Must be enrolled at the University of Florida College of Medicine. Allen B. and Elizabeth W. Shevach Scholarship Fund for Johns Hopkins University at Baltimore For deserving undergraduate students who graduate from high schools in Lee County and enroll at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. $1,500 Must be a high school graduate of a Lee County High School. Must be enrolled at Johns Hopkins University. 7

Allen B. and Elizabeth W. Shevach Scholarship Fund for Lee County High School For deserving students who graduate from high schools located in Lee County. $1,500 Must be a high school graduate of a Lee County High School. The William (Billy) R. Shevach Scholarship Fund For deserving graduating student athletes from Fort Myers High School in Lee County. College athletics is not a requirement for the scholarship. $1,500 Must graduate from Fort Myers High School. Students must have lettered in at least one interscholastic high school sport. Anne Sturrock Nursing Scholarship Fund For a student pursuing nursing who is a member, or a child of a member, of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Cape Coral. $7,900 Must be a member or a child of a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church. Must pursue a career in nursing. Shadow Wood Community Association & Club Scholarship For Shadow Wood Country Club or Shadow Wood Community Association employees and their children (but not other dependents) in their pursuit of further education. $4,000 Must be a high school graduate or equivalent. Must be an employee of Shadow Wood Country Club or Shadow Wood Community Association who has completed one (1) year of service and currently working full or parttime, OR the child, age 26 years or younger, of such an employee. Must submit two (2) letters of recommendation (non-family) Must include in the essay his/her rationale for requesting financial assistance and the desired outcome from continuing his/her education. 8

Spring Run Charitable Foundation Scholarship For Spring Run Country Club employees and their dependents age 26 years or younger in pursuit of further education. Must be a high school graduate or equivalent. Must have at least a 2.5 unweighted GPA. Must be an employee of Spring Run Country Club who has completed one year of service or the dependent, 26 years or younger, of such an employee. Must submit two letters of recommendation from a nonfamily member. Must have rational for requesting financial assistance and the desired outcome from continuing education and describe in personal essay. TBD Jordan Ashley Gutheim Scholarship For an Evangelical Christian School High School graduate in Fort Myers, Florida. Must be a graduating high school senior from Evangelical Christian School in Fort Myers. Must be a resident of Lee County. Must plan to attend FSU. Must demonstrate financial need. $2,000 May be renewable up to 4 years. Keen Family Nursing Scholarship Fund For students at Florida Southwestern State College who are motivated and academically qualified, but are without the means to pursue an education in nursing. $4,700 Must be a student at FSW. Must be motivated and academically qualified. Must pursue an education in nursing. 9

Certified Public Accountant s Scholarship For tuition, books and/or fees for an undergraduate or graduate student, in need of financial assistance, with a 3.0+ GPA and is a resident of Southwest Florida majoring in accounting and planning to attend a post-secondary institution in the five-county area of Lee, Charlotte, Hendry, Glades or Collier County. $2,600 Must be an undergraduate or graduate student. Must plan to attend, or attend, a post-secondary institution in the five-county area of Lee, Charlotte, Hendry, Glades or Collier County. Must major in accounting. Must have a 3.0 GPA or higher. Jay Sheppard Memorial Scholarship For a Bishop Verot Catholic High School student who needs financial assistance. Applicants must demonstrate school spirit through participation in extracurricular activities, community service, spiritual growth opportunities and leadership. $2,000 Must be a Bishop Verot Catholic High School graduate. Must demonstrate school spirit through participation in extracurricular activities, community service, spiritual growth opportunities and leadership. Frances H. Waldron Scholarship Fund For an Immokalee High School graduate, who needs financial assistance, with a GPA between 3.2-3.4 and plans to attend an accredited college or university in Southwest Florida. $2,500 Must be an Immokalee High School graduate. Must have a GPA between 3.2-3.4. Must plan to attend an accredited college or university in Southwest Florida. Must need financial assistance. 10

James F. Chelius Jr., Esq. Scholarship Fund For a Charlotte, Hendry or Lee County high school senior, in need of financial assistance, who has lettered in a sport and has at least a 3.0 GPA. $1,000 Must be a Charlotte, Hendry or Lee County graduating senior. Must have lettered in a sport. Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Must plan to pursue post-secondary education at an accredited technical school, community college, college or university. Dr. Janet Marderness Scholarship Fund For a Fort Myers High School graduating senior, with at least a 3.0 GPA, who plans to study a Science or Math related field at an accredited institution. $1,500 Must be a Fort Myers High School graduating senior. Must have attended Fort Myers High School during their Junior and Senior years. Must have a minimum 3.0 unweighted GPA. Must plan to plan to study any Math or Science related fields. Must plan to attend an accredited institution. Total-36 11
