Aldworth School WEEKLY NEWS SHEET Issue 200 Friday 8 December 2017 What s on this week Friday 15 December INSET Day MESSAGE FROM HEADTEACHER Pastoral Leadership Mrs Masters joined Aldworth on Wednesday and is leading Years 8 and 9. She is currently trying to get to know as many students and staff as possible. If you are contacting the school about your son or daughter the usual points of contact, in the first instance, should either be the form tutor or the subject teacher if the query is specifically related to a subject or class. It is also useful if you could give an indication to reception staff regarding the nature of any query as that also helps ensure the right person is able to deal with it and may also reduce the time taken for us to respond. If you need to speak to one of the pastoral leaders they are: Miss E Smith: Years 10 and 11 Mrs V Masters: Years 8 and 9 Miss Z Davies: Year 7 (and Year 6 Transition) Year 11 Parents Evening We held a Year 11 parents evening last night. Our Ref: JBL/LRS 8 December 2017 Dear Parent/ Guardian As I am sure you are already aware, your child is a performer in Rock Challenge 2018. This year the themee is Are you really in control of your destiny? The Rock Challenge performance is on Monday 19 February 2018 at Southampton Guildhall. The students will be travellingg to Southampton by coach. The studentss will need to meet in the Main Hall by 8..15am. Wee will not be returningg to school until approximately 11.30pm, depending upon traffic. Duee to the lateness of o our return to school, it is compulsory that every child is met by a parent and is escorted home. No student will be allowed to walk home either as a group or on their own uponn our returnn to school. The cost of the coach has been part funded by the school. Consequen ntly, the coach fare will only be 5 per child. Please can you ensure that this is returned with the appropriate forms by Wednesday 10 January. Payment cann be made online or o by cashh or cheque (made payable to Hampshire County Council) to the Finance Office. The Rock Challenge is an extremely long and tiring day. With this in mind, it has been agreed that if your child is finding it particularly difficult to get g up for school the following morning, they have permission to arrive at school for a 10.40am start on the Tuesday morning. However, it should be stressedd that students should try to come to school for the normal start time. If you do send your child in late on the Tuesday morning, it is essential that they report to a member of stafff in the Gym at 10.40am andd that the reply slip attached is completed and bought to school on Tuesday by your child.. Failure to completee the slip and to report to a member of staff will result inn your child s absence being registered as unauthorised. The day will consist of rehearsals for the evening performance, which commences at 6.30pm. If your child is goingg to leavee Southampton Guildhall with you and will not be returning on the coach, please could you ensure that this is written on the attached slip. You will also need to inform a member of the school staff team and sign your child out at the time of leaving the Guildhall. Your child will need plenty of o food andd drink for the whole of the day. There willl be an opportunity for studentss to leave the Guildhall with staff for lunch at one of the fast food restaurants in Southampton West Quay. Other O than for lunch or unlesss escorted by a member of staff, studentss will not be allowed to leave the Guildhall and are required to remain inside the building at all times.

It is necessary for students to be dressed sensibly and comfortably. Each student will be provided with a Rock Challenge t-shirtt which they must wear w whilst at the Guildhall. I would also suggest they wear trainers or flat shoes that are comfortable on their feet. However, no open toed shoes are allowed due to health and safety. Students are not required to wear school uniform. If your child would like to purchase a Rock Challenge hoodie theyy need to inform the Finance Office by Wednesday 10 January 2018. The cost off the hoodie is 15, or 16 with your child s name printed on the back. Sizes available are a XS/S/M/L/XL/XXL, pleasee indicate size required on reply slip. Payment needs to be made by Wednesday 10 January 2018. Payment can be made online, orr by cash or cheque (made payable to Hampshire County Council) to the Finance Office. Attached to this letter is a medical form which all students are requiredd to return. The form needs to be completed and handed into the Finance Office by Wednesday 10 January 2018 or your child will not be able to participate in Rock Challenge 2018. It is the responsibility of the parent or guardian to update the school of any changes to your child s medical condition. For your child to continue to be a member of the Productionn Team, it is necessary for the attached forms to be completed and handed into the Finance Officee by Wednesday 10 January 2018. Failure to complete the attached forms will w result in your child being removed from the team. If you have anyy concerns or questions regarding Rock Challenge, please do not hesitate to contact me at the school. I look forward to an enjoyable and successful production. Yours sincerely Mr J Bramwell Co-ordinator of Rock Challenge
