Exhibitions & Displays Pocket watches from the city s Decorative Art collection Museums Sheffield Tim Etchells & Vlatka Horvat: What Can Be Seen 8 Feb 7 May 2017 What Can Be Seen is a new collaborative project by internationally renowned artists Tim Etchells and Vlatka Horvat reimagining Sheffield s diverse museum collections. Presenting new groupings of objects from the city s collections and the materials used to catalogue, maintain and preserve them, the exhibition explores how we attempt to understand the world through history, science, art, narrative and the act of collecting itself. In the playful, unexpected associations Etchells and Horvat create, the mysterious, unusual, banal and everyday are reframed in each other s company, inviting viewers to see them anew. Stories from the East: The Grice Ivories 11 Mar 9 July 2017 Discover a spellbinding world of myth and legend as some of the UK s finest examples of Chinese craftsmanship go on show at this spring. This is the largest display of these remarkable hand-carvings in over 15 years and will look at the tales, figures and traditions that inspired them. This exhibition will also explore how Dr John Grice s extraordinary collection of ivories came to Sheffield in the 1930s, as well as the history and impact of the ivory trade.
