ORGANIZATIONAL HISTORY The Office of News and Publications (before 993 called the Office of Medical Information; the name changed to University News Bureau in September 20; the office is now known as Communications, Marketing, and Public Affairs) was the UT Southwestern department responsible for () relations with the media and (2) preparation and distribution of the campus newspaper Center Times, Southwestern Medicine annual report, and other campus publications. The staff included a photographer who recorded notable campus events, with many of the photos being used in campus publications. SCOPE AND CONTENT The collection consists of print, photographic, and audiovisual materials created and collected by the UT Southwestern Office of News & Publications. Brown and Goldstein News Clippings Series Note: The clippings are organized alphabetically by state. This was a project undertaken by the (then) Office of Medical Information to collect news clippings about Dr. Michael Brown and Dr. Joseph Goldstein s winning of the 985 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. This series is filed in 7 legal-size document case boxes. Series 5. News & Publications Slides/Negatives/Brochures Series Note: This series contains 35mm slides documenting UT Southwestern s built environment, its people, and special events on campus. Also included are campus aerials and photos of Exchange Park. There are photographic negatives and contact sheets that were produced for the 990 Faculty Photo Directory and the Graduate School and School of Allied Health Sciences catalogs. The series also contains many transparencies of textiles on display in Zale Lipshy University Hospital and brochures featuring the textiles. This series is filed in 5 records center cartons. Series 6. News Clippings and University News Releases Series Note: This series contains news clippings from 968 to 20. Beginning with the year 980, the official university news releases are filed in this series, along with news clippings related to the releases. News releases from 968 to 979 are filed with other UT Southwestern periodicals (see Related Published Material above). This series is filed in 06 records center cartons and 7 legal-size document case boxes. Series 7. Audiovisual Materials Series Note: The VHS/Beta/U-matic videotapes and DVDs in this series are arranged alphabetically by topic or last name of the person featured. The videos and DVDs span the years from circa 970 to circa 200. Many of the videos are recordings of local news reports. Some of the videos are records of KERA-TV s Daniel Foster, MD and Life Matters. Other content is video produced by UT Southwestern s Medical Center Television (now known as Audiovisual Services).
