Participation You are expected to participate in class activities. If you are not participating, I will try to get you to participate by asking you to answer questions or do activities. If you continue to not participate, I may mark you absent. Snow days If we have very icy or snowy weather, please go to the website (www.pierce.ctc.edu) to check for closures or late starts. Speaking English I expect you to speak English as much as you can during class. I understand that sometimes you need help from your classmates, so a little bit of speaking in your first language is okay. However, you will learn English much faster if you try not to use your first language. For example, if you do not understand my instructions, please raise your hand and ask me to explain them again instead of turning to your classmate for a translation. If you hear or read a word you don t know, try to guess the meaning instead of immediately looking it up in your dictionary. If you use these strategies, your English skill will improve much more quickly. 5
