POSITION VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT University of California Cooperative Extension Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources Academic Coordinator II - Project Learning Tree AP #12-23 Location Headquarters: ANR Building, Davis, California CLOSING DATE: To assure full consideration, application packets must be received by February 19, 2013 (open until filled) THIS POSITION ENDS ON DECEMBER 31, 2013, UNLESS FUNDING IS CONTINUED. BACKGROUND: The University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE), a statewide program with local delivery, is seeking an Academic Coordinator II responsible for conducting and coordinating a state-wide program to implement the Project Learning Tree (PLT) program. PLT is a national award-winning environmental education program designed for teachers and other educators, parents, and community leaders working with youth from pre-school through grade 12. PLT is a nation-wide program sponsored and administered by the American Forest Foundation which is a non-profit education and conservation organization. ANR envisions a thriving California in 2025 where healthy people and communities, healthy food systems, and healthy environments are strengthened by a close partnership between the University of California and its research and extension programs and the people of the state. Position Location: The headquarters for this position is the ANR Building at UC Davis with office space provided by the Youth, Families and Communities program. NATURE AND PURPOSE: Outreach: The UCCE-Project Learning Tree (PLT) Academic Coordinator (Coordinator) will be responsible for the transition of the PLT program from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection to the University of California Cooperative Extension. The Coordinator will work with the existing PLT program facilitator network and the California PLT Advisory Council to maintain and expand the program audience. The Coordinator will coordinate with the other Projects (Project WILD and Project WET) and the California Department of Education California Regional Environmental Education Community (CREEC) network to the extent necessary in an effort to maintain communication and outreach activities. The primary audience is potential extenders of PLT which include classroom teachers, college professors of education who conduct pre-service training, state and federal agency personnel and others. Important personal qualities include entrepreneurial skills related to program development and management and an optimistic outlook. Outreach methods will include individual consultations, workshops and meetings, web conferences, emerging electronic media including but not limited to: online learning, content

repositories, social media, impact and evaluation tools, and public media outlets. Because the Coordinator will manage a statewide program regular travel is required. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Coordinator will implement the UCCE-PLT program with responsibility to fulfill the goals and objectives described in the grant scope of work including, but not limited to, those listed below: Maintain and build on the PLT network of trained facilitators who teach pre-service teachers, school teachers, youth development professionals and others. Conduct an outreach program to recruit PLT workshop participants. Provide PLT training to multiple and diverse audiences. Recruit new PLT facilitators and conduct training workshops. Cultivate the existing PLT facilitator network to assist with program training. Promote the PLT program to natural resource agencies, organizations and professionals, and additional community partners to expand and enhance the network. Work with UCCE 4-H Youth Development program administrators to explore the potential for PLT to be administered within the California 4-H Youth Development Program. Manage the administrative and budget aspects of the grant funded UCCE PLT program. RELATIONSHIPS: The PLT Coordinator is administratively responsible to the PLT grant-funded project and the associated Principal Investigators. AFFIRMATIVE ACTION: An understanding of and commitment to UC ANR affirmative action goals is expected. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A Master's Degree in education or environmental education or a related field is desired. A California teaching credential and work experience with applied resource management are highly preferred. The applicant must be a trained Project Learning Tree Facilitator. Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills are required.

Work experience with applied resource management is highly desirable. Extension experience is desirable. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and PREFERENCES: The Coordinator must be skilled with word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software. Skill with social media and website management is desirable. A background investigation may be required for the successful candidate, including fingerprinting and a criminal history clearance by the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. SALARY: Beginning salary will be in the Academic Coordinator II Rank and commensurate with applicable experience and professional qualifications.
